I’ve been slowly starting to decorate our home for fall, and I just love the warmth and coziness this time of year brings to our home. The cozy textures, the pretty colors… it just makes my heart happy. As I was working on a simple fall tablescape the other day, I started to notice some common elements that I always add to our home for fall, a sort of “fall decorating recipe” I use. I thought this could be super helpful to share with you guys as you begin to decorate your home as well, so today I’m going back through the Love Grows Wild archives (some of these photos date back to 2013!) and highlighting 5 easy ways to welcome fall into your home.
1 | Add layers of pattern and texture
Pull out the extra blankets and cozy sweaters! The more soft, warm textures you can add, the better. Think chunky sweater blankets, woven baskets, and anything plaid, wool, or cashmere. The softness of these layers instantly gives you the feeling that fall’s cooler temperatures are on the way.

2 | Bring in natural elements of the season
The best and easiest way to bring fall into your home is to use the beauty of nature during this stunning season. What do you notice outside this time of year and what is ready to harvest? Pumpkins, wheat, pears, apples, acorns, leaves, mums… all of these are perfect for giving the feeling of fall in the most organic, beautiful way. And the best part of decorating this way is that most of these items are very inexpensive or even free from your own yard! Go outside and clip a few branches from a tree with leaves turning those gorgeous fall colors. Visiting a pumpkin patch is always a yearly tradition for us, so why not put those pretty pumpkins to good use?

3 | Decorate with colors that already exist in your home
If switching out all the decor in your home with every season seems overwhelming, try this trick instead: let the colors already in your home be the color palette for your fall decor. This feels much more cohesive and is so much less work. Sometimes all I do is add a few white pumpkins and call it a day.

4 | Add candles for warm ambiance
Even in spaces where you’re not doing anything special with fall decor, simply adding a few candles for a warm glow can make your home feel so cozy this time of year.

5 | Create simple floral arrangements
Even if you’re short on time or money, the easiest thing you can do this fall is create a simple centerpiece to set out on a table. Try picking up a bouquet of fresh sunflowers or invest in some faux wheat stems you can use year after year. One of my favorite tricks is drying flowers from summer to use in my fall decor. The dried flowers remind me of the seasons changing outside and the crunchy leaves falling from the trees.

Restful, cozy and beautiful! Love your house, it makes you want to come and sit a spell! All the texture keeps the light colors from being cold.
Such fun going through your blog this morning!! You are so full of wonderful ideas I had to go back through and take in more than I did during my first read!
Your use of plaid is really terrific! We have only one pitiful plaid blanket and it’s my husband’s chair blanket! Hix Mom gave it to him and he would never, ever give it up in exchange for another one just so I could use it elsewhere!! Oh well, I’ll just be happy I have it and maybe I could ask him nicely to hang on the back of his chair instead of on the ground!! Men are funny sometimes!
We live in Canada so I know the value of layering! Your idea to do so inside is wonderful! I love my home and find it to be very comfy and cozy but some layering is something I’m going to put my mind to, thanks to you!
Thanks again for your many lovely ideas! I’m filing your blog so I can refer back to it often! It’s great fun!
Happy Fall!!
I love your blog! Always look forward to your posts. I did notice that you purchased your Wayfair couch back in 2016. After 2 years how is it holding up? You are the 2nd person I’ve read on line that’s purchased this same couch. I’m tempted to hit the buy now button on this couch. I’ve read about every review possible! Would love your update. Thanks
Thank you so much, sweet friend! I actually love that couch so much that I purchased the same thing, just as a sectional a few months ago. We still have the original tufted sofa, just needed more seating in the living room! It has been easy to keep clean, the fabric has held up really well and doesn’t look worn at all. I would definitely recommend this couch! 🙂
It all looks fantastic, so pretty! You gave me a few ideas I will incorporate into my decorating for my favorite time of year!
