Update your home for spring with these simple, inexpensive ideas from LoveGrowsWild.com - click for more photos!

Despite the fact that it snowed a couple inches here this week, I’m going to PRETEND like it’s spring. I’m going to pretend it is warm enough to open the windows and put away the winter blankets and plant some flowers. Even though there’s really still snow on the ground, and I’m sitting here in fuzzy socks and a robe, let’s pretend it’s spring and take a little tour of the house all freshened up for this beautiful season.

For those of you who are stopping by from the home tour, I want to say, WELCOME! I’m thrilled to have you here at the farmhouse. We’re in the process of renovating and updating our cute, old home, and I can’t wait to show you the progress we’ve made so far. Let’s start in my office!

This is the room where all the magic happens… blog magic, that is. 😉 With the feminine color palette I chose for the office makeover, it already felt like it was “ready for spring”. A few flowers and pastel accents was all it needed…

We’ve been so busy with the living room/dining room makeover that not much has changed in the office lately, but I did give my desk chair a pretty big upgrade with this tufted beauty I found at Kirkland’s. I loved the makeover I did on the $5 thrift store chair, but it was time for a change. This new chair really dresses up the desk area and is MUCH more comfortable when I’m sitting at the computer all day.

Sprucing up your home for spring does not mean you have to spend a ton of money. Want to know my current decorating obsession? Baby’s breath! I bought 4 packages from the grocery store for under $12 and used little bunches of it all over the house. It’s so inexpensive, lasts much longer than fancy, delicate flowers, and I love the simple, clean feel of it. Seriously… count all the different places I used it in this post!

Moving on to the most recent room makeover… our dining room! We lightened up the space with board and batten on the walls, built a new farmhouse table and benches, and added some much-needed storage, as this space also doubles as our entryway. I even made you muffins today…

Hi! Stopping by from the Inspiration^2 link party. Beautiful home! It is like a magazine spread. How to you manage to be so uncluttered? Where do you keep “stuff” like craft supplies, etc?

So happy to see you at Love Grows Wild, Ashley! You’re too kind. šŸ™‚ My house certainly isn’t always uncluttered… four people (2 of them kids) living in a small farmhouse makes for a lot of “stuff”! I try to add storage everywhere and anywhere I can, plus I’m really good about purging and organizing regularly. I don’t like to keep stuff around if we don’t use it, so I donate and sell quite a bit to keep down on all the clutter. And then there are times where my house still looks like a tornado hit, but hey… that’s life! šŸ™‚

A weird side angle of the living room as proof tha A weird side angle of the living room as proof that a giant TV does in fact exist in here, and we are just a normal family who loves movie nights snuggled up on the couch with the dog & football Sundays with all the yummy food during the game (one benefit of having an open concept living/dining room). I purposely placed the TV in a spot where it isn’t the main focal point of the room and designed the space to draw your eye to other much prettier things like the big picture window just to the left of this photo.

Want to try something like this in your living room? See if you can arrange the furniture so the TV isn’t the main focal point in the room, but still has visibility from the majority of your seating. Try making the focus a fireplace, window, or create a gallery wall with pretty artwork if you don’t have any standout architectural elements!

Just a little tidbit of advice I’ve learned & loved & wanted to pass along... Happy Monday, sweet friends!

What are your plans for the weekend? Whatever they are, I hope you have a chance to laugh, rest, eat something delicious, and enjoy a little sunshine (even if it’s sitting indoors because it’s very brrrr outside)!

Quite possibly my favorite view in the house. And Quite possibly my favorite view in the house. And also quite possibly the best place for morning snuggles, second cups of coffee, and the occasional Netflix binge. This room was ā€œshiplappedā€ over 5 years ago now, but it has never felt like a passing fad or overly trendy with a mix of other vintage & traditional elements in the room. These big, wide planks have my whole heart just as much as the day we installed them back in 2015.

What’s your opinion on shiplap? In? Out? Vertical? Horizontal? Focal wall or the entire room? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

NEW! THE ARMSTRONG HOUSE LIVING ROOM REVEAL Last NEW! THE ARMSTRONG HOUSE LIVING ROOM REVEAL

Last time I shared an update on Mom’s house, I had just revealed the completed renovation, and you were able to see all the freshly painted white walls, new carpet & flooring, and a very stark blank canvas. We intentionally made this space light, bright, & neutral since 1) it’s a rental home, and we want it to appeal to a variety of styles. And 2) it’s VERY small, so the light paint makes it feel much more open & spacious than dark paint would! But all those white walls were in desperate need of a warm, cozy touch, and that’s exactly what Mom and I did…

These are a few of my favorite things... 1ļøāƒ£ These are a few of my favorite things...

1ļøāƒ£ a piece of handmade art that brings me back to my elementary schools days of paper mache creations. I saw something similar in a store with a much higher price tag & got inspired to see if I could recreate it myself. Spoiler alert: it worked & the tutorial is on my blog! search ā€œpressed flower artā€ on lovegrowswild .com

2ļøāƒ£ my favorite white vases that we sold in the shop @lovegrowswildmarket this past year

3ļøāƒ£ my growing collection of interior design books. Naturally more of a minimalist, I have very few ā€œcollectionsā€ of things, but having beautiful books around the house that I can both decorate with & draw inspiration from has been one of the best gifts to myself over the last year. You can find all my current favorite design books in the link below.

Oh, and 4ļøāƒ£ a faux plant because who has time to remember to water real ones?
