I love this time of year on the farm. The weather is finally warm and all the trees are starting to look full and green again after a long, cold winter. Right next to our big white barn in the backyard sits a beautiful tree that I’ve always thought would be the perfect place to have an outdoor dinner party. So a few weeks ago, that’s exactly what I did!
Jeremy helped me move this large table outside, along with our kitchen cross-back chairs and two other white chairs. You might remember that this big table used to be my desk, but it took up quite a bit of room in the office, so I swapped it out for a new one recently (you can see updated photos of my office in this summer home tour!). I didn’t have a place for the table anywhere else in the house, so why not use it outside instead?
To decorate the table, I used a mix of items I already had on hand and a few new pieces I picked up at At Home in their Outdoor Entertaining section. I wanted the table setting to be simple and natural to compliment the beauty of our surroundings, so I used clean, white plates and antique silverware that belonged to Jeremy’s grandfather as the base of the design.
Textured linen napkins from At Home added a bit of softness, and these tall wooden candlesticks with gorgeous carved details gave height to the center of the table. For the centerpiece, I decided to use a grouping of smaller vases instead of one large piece, and I found these cute, little vases wrapped in twine at At Home that fit in with my “natural” theme perfectly. I love the hint of pattern they add to the table!
I picked up some fresh greenery before the party and filled the vases with a mix of ferns, leaves, and other greens for a casual, relaxed look.
I even found the cutest, little glass milk bottles to use for our drinks… is that not perfect for farmhouse style? I just love them!
But I have to admit that my favorite part of the entire table setting is this GORGEOUS large lantern from At Home that Jeremy helped me hang over our table! It holds 5 or 6 candles and created the perfect ambiance for dinner with beautiful candlelight as the sun went down. Even though we were dining outside, the lantern “chandelier” made the space feel so homey!
I was able to document my shopping experience at At Home with the help of some really talented filmmakers, and I am SO excited to share this video with you!! It is such a fun way for you guys to see first-hand how I go about shopping for home decor and my design process for putting this table setting together. You’ll also see why I’ve been shopping at At Home so much lately!
I truly hope you enjoy this sweet, little video, and please let me know what you think in the comments below!
Our first outdoor dinner party was a huge success, and I envision us having many more out here this summer. Our home is far from perfect, but this view right here…
this is why I love our little farmhouse!
Forgive me… I couldn’t help but share this photo in black and white too. Those shadows on the ground, the sunlight coming through the long, reaching branches… sigh.

Sometimes the simplest things are the most gorgeous ones – I’d have be one of your outdoor dinner guest, too ๐ A picture from the table in the dark with all the candels on would be a great one, too..
Wow! I loved your video…and the table. I need to host an outdoor party now. I simply love everything you do, Liz. Keep the inspiration coming!
Beautiful space and I especially love the black and white photo!
You are darling Liz! And that set up is a complete dream. What an awesome oppurtunity for you to work with them – although I’m pretty certain they are the ones that lucked out big to get you ๐ Great job!
