A simple printer's tray lined with old book pages makes a beautiful piece of decor! | LoveGrowsWild.com

Today’s post isn’t going to be a crazy, huge building project or a 9 hour long painting tutorial… because sometimes I just want to show you guys simple, little decorating ideas that just make me happy. And make my home pretty. And don’t take 89 different supplies and an entire day’s worth of effort to complete. Simple. Beautiful. Doable. Are you guys cool with that? I knew I loved ya for a reason. 😉

Today’s decorating idea involves a printer’s tray that I decorated with old book pages…

I keep a few old thrift store books around for crafting and decorating purposes, and cut out 12 pages to fit inside the sections of my tray.

I love decorating with old book pages because it adds a subtle pattern without being overwhelming. Simple, neutral colors with a great vintage appeal.

To add interest to the tray, I cut the pages at different angles and placed them randomly in each section. I just used a little glue dot to attach each page, which can be easily removed later if I want to try a different look for the tray.

I’ve seen printer’s trays decorated with photos, scrapbook paper, small collectibles such as vintage keys, and all kinds other embellishments. So many possibilities! How would YOU decorate a printer’s tray?

Are painter’s tray an antique item? How were they used once upon a time?

Great question, Jeannie! Printer’s trays, or type cases, were once used to hold the various letters and numbers used in letterpress printing. You’ll often find them in antique stores, but the one I used is a new, smaller reproduction. Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
