Hello, my loves. Remember last year when I gave our teeny, tiny farmhouse front porch a makeover? A new light fixture, wooden planters, and some bold house numbers painted on our front door… it was a big improvement! This year I thought I’d add to my cute, little front porch with a few new pieces for spring.
I started with the wooden X planters I built last year. They added some much-needed warmth and character to the front of our house, and although I had real plants growing in them last summer, I decided to move my boxwood topiaries up here for now and see how I like them. Do you remember these topiaries from my little white barn last week? Even though they were darling next to the barn, I think I like them up on the front porch even more!
During my last shopping trip to At Home when I bought the topiaries, I spotted some gorgeous pots in their Outdoor Entertaining section that I went back and purchased this week. So many of the pots you’ll find have a bright, shiny glazed finish, but these planters with a beautiful patina and old world feel jumped right out at me… and into my cart! They add such a pretty layer of texture and character to the front porch and were the perfect size to display on the porch steps.
When it came time to pick out some flowers for the pots, normally I choose white flowers or just simple greenery, but I surprised myself by picking up these purple beauties. I know… shocker, right? : )
Hopefully my non-green thumb will be able to keep them alive all summer. The plants and flowers from my patio makeover are doing well so far!
Last year I had just a basic black rubber doormat on the front porch, but I spotted some really cute rugs at At Home for an awesome price. This black and white patterned cutie came home with me as well as a large one for my patio… you’ll see the new patio rug in a blog post soon!
At Home even had the cutest garden statues I’ve ever seen, and I grabbed two statues are the perfect architectural detail next to my planters. I was REALLY tempted to bring home a little hedgehog, mossy mushroom, or pig, but I refrained from creating a mini zoo on the front porch. : )
A simple wreath caps off the design, giving the plain glass door a little bit of pattern and texture. But I think my favorite part of the entire porch is the sweet, little scallop detail above our front door. It is part of the charm that I just love about our farmhouse!
I hope the take-away from this post is that just because your porch might be small, it doesn’t mean it can’t be big on style and charm! What do you think of our little front porch update?
