Homemade Play Dough Recipe

Learn how to make your own play dough at home! Fast, easy, and keeps the kids entertained for hours!

I’ve shared tons of recipes here on Love Grows Wild over the past few years, but I must say that this one knocked my socks off. It’s not food though, my friends… it’s homemade play dough! The boys and I tried a little kitchen experiment a few weeks ago and whipped up this play dough in just a matter of minutes. It was super easy to do, and the kids played with this stuff for hours! I’m thinking this is going to be the perfect gift for all the kiddos on my Christmas list this year.

Twine Ball Ornaments

Let the holiday season begin! Much to my husband’s dismay, the Christmas tree went up in our house a few weeks ago so I could start getting things prepared for the blog. It wouldn’t be very helpful if I showed you some jazzy new ideas for your holiday decorating the day before Christmas, now would it? Don’t hate the player, dear husband… hate the game.

We used to have just one tree in the house that had everything but the kitchen sink on it… Barbie ornaments from my childhood, the boys’ superhero ornaments, Jeremy’s John Deere tractor ornaments, and plenty of handmade ornaments from my Grandma Ginny. The past few years I’ve started putting up a second smaller tree in the boys’ bedroom that they can decorate with all their big, crazy, bright-colored ornaments and Momma can have a “pretty tree” in the living room. Best. Decision. Ever. The boys feel special getting their very own Christmas tree, and I get to decorate the living room tree MY style. Which doesn’t happen to include Captain America, Spongebob Square Pants, or Larry the Cable Guy.

I’ve slowly been adding more ornaments to my “pretty tree”, and this year I felt like it needed a little rustic charm to balance out all the glitter and glam. These Twine Ball Ornaments were easy (and so fun!) to make and add a touch of simple, natural beauty to my tree. I’ll show you how I made them!

Simple Rustic Table Setting

The countdown to the holidays has officially begun! I can almost taste the pumpkin pie, cranberry sauce, turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes already. The holidays are such a fun, exciting, and memorable time for my family, but they can get a little hectic too, traveling to see all the family and making sure you have everything checked off your holiday to-do list. Do you ever feel that way too?

I know that I’m a complete Type A control freak, so over the years I’ve learned to keep things as simple as possible. The K.I.S.S. theory, if you will. I love seeing photos of the big, elaborate holiday table settings with giant bouquets of flowers, candles scattered everywhere, and a huge stack of plates set on top of perfectly pressed linens, surrounded by 8 different forks, knives, and spoons… per person.

But let’s get real… that’s just not me. I don’t have the time to wash that many eating utensils, let alone iron everyone’s napkins. I’m lucky if I get the food on the table without any major disasters like forgetting to take out the turkey innards or burning 3 different batches of rolls! Not that those things have ever happened…

So today I’m sharing with you a simple rustic table setting idea that you can do quickly, easily, and inexpensively. I think you’re going to love it!

DIY Gold Burst

As I’m getting some of the bigger projects finished in my office, it’s time to start thinking about the finer details…. accessories, pillows, and the fun stuff! This is the first room in my house that I had a really clear vision of what I wanted, and I knew exactly what my color scheme would be from the beginning. It’s no surprise that going lighter and whiter has been a big part of the room’s makeover, and my mint desk makeover gave the perfect pop of color to the space. I love the simple, classic look of black and white decor, and gold is a natural pairing, adding a touch of glam in the room.

For months now, I’ve walked past a black and gold display in Hobby Lobby that catches my eye every time. It’s full of gold antlers, gold feathers, gold lamps, and these amazing gold bursts that I just adore! I’m always tempted to toss a couple into my cart for my office makeover, but I look at them and think, “I could easily make those for way cheaper.” Typical Liz, right? Well, now that I have space for accessories on the bookshelves I just finished (I’m sharing that reveal next week, so enjoy this sneak peek!), I finally got around to making a gorgeous DIY Gold Burst for my office, and I couldn’t be more excited to share this tutorial with you!

DIY Chalkboard Sign

Happy Saturday, friends! I’m gearing up for some big projects around here soon (follow my Instagram feed for sneak peeks!), and I have a long to-do list ahead of me. I cannot wait to share more details with you! What are you up to this weekend?

I wanted to pop in quickly today and share an awesome little project that I think you’re going to love. I made a quick and simple chalkboard using a wood round (pre-cut from the craft store) and some chalkboard paint! Does it really get much easier than that? The raw wood has a great rustic vibe, and although I haven’t gone too far into decorating for fall (… yet!), this little bit of chalk art is giving me a great start!

Geometric Stitched Animal Art

Lately I’ve been busy working behind the scenes on my office makeover and tackling a ton of big projects that I cannot wait to share with you guys. It’s coming along beautifully! The problem with big, epic, awesome-sauce projects is that they usually take a good amount of time to complete. At least that’s the way it seems to work for me anyway. So while I have my office torn apart with furniture paining, table building, and a few other surprise projects, I’m going to share a few smaller (but still awesome-sauce!) home decor ideas that I’ve had floating around in my brain for awhile. You may just see a few of them used in my office makeover as we go along!

This sweet little piece of art came from an idea I found on the HGTV Handmade YouTube Channel. I’ve worked with canvas stitching before on my embroidered canvas word art, so I already knew this would be a fun and simple project to tackle. It only took me about a half hour and cost under $7 in supplies to create this Geometric Stitched Animal Art that will add the perfect touch of whimsy to any room!
