Bathroom Makeover on a Budget

Update your bathroom on a budget with stylish Amazon finds under $45. From affordable storage solutions to beautiful home accents, you can upgrade your space with our curated finds starting at just $15!

Back in March I shared a tutorial on how to paint cabinets when I updated our bathroom vanity from white to a soft, dusty gray-green color – you can read all about that process here.

I promised I would share a full reveal of all the updates we made in the bathroom as soon as it was finished, so today I’m sharing tons of photos and details on all the affordable decor I found on (mostly) Amazon!

Bathroom Makeover on a Budget

On this side of our bathroom, I tried to maximize storage, function, and style with the small space I have to work with.

I really wanted to start incorporating some antique brass accents to break up all the dark oil rubbed bronze finishes I’ve always had in here. I installed a double towel rack above the toilet for hand towels – I have hooks by the shower for larger towels.

I also changed out the shower fixtures to a softer, warmer champagne bronze after an unfortunate plumbing issue and broken valve that caused me to have to replace the fixtures anyway. I went with the Delta Saylor series and chose the dual function shower head with the sprayer handle attachment to make giving the dogs a bath much easier. It wasn’t an expense I initially planned on having, but it ended up being a little upgrade that makes a huge, beautiful impact on the only bathroom in this house that we first renovated almost a decade ago now.

I know choosing metal finishes can be a daunting design dilemma, especially when you’re wanting to start transitioning from one finish throughout your house to another. I personally don’t think there is a hard rule for mixing metal finishes – basically if you like it, that’s all that matters! But I do personally gravitate towards a warmer, softer, more traditional look for our home overall vs. a very modern, cool-toned, glam look, so finishes like gold, brass, and bronze are usually my go-to.

I did keep the same dark bronze sink faucet because I love the way the two metal finishes play together. The dark bronze grounds the space and gives the bathroom some contrast and structure, while the gold finishes add a touch of elegance – sort of the “jewelry” that catches your eye when you walk in.

One thing I’ve had in my Amazon cart forever that I couldn’t wait to incorporate in here is this cordless battery-operated LED lamp. We have very little counter space in this bathroom, and normally I would limit the things I set here and leave as much blank space and breathing room as possible. I’m definitely not the cluttery, more is more type of decorator.

But this little lamp adds the coziest touch to our bathroom and brings in another layer of lighting without having to add any actual light fixtures or plugs or wiring. I’m telling you – the feeling this space has when it’s lit up at night with just the glow from the lamp and a candle is pure magic. Go take a shower with only lamp or candle light, and tell me it’s not the most relaxing, romantic thing you’ve done all week. Highly, highly recommend adding a source of dim, cozy lighting to your bathrooms!

OTHER COZY ELEMENTS I ADDED:

This waffle bath mat that is super absorbent, adds the prettiest texture, has great neutral color options and various sizes, and has clear rubber on the back so it doesn’t slide around. Starts at just $18 (depending on the size you need), and I would definitely purchase this over and over again.

This black and white grid striped shower curtain with fringe that’s only $25. I ordered probably a dozen different Amazon shower curtains to find the right color, pattern, and size for the new aesthetic in our bathroom, and this one has really good quality fabric and just enough detail to add interest but not overtake the small space. Note: not waterproof, so you will still need a waterproof liner behind the curtain. I highly recommend this one that is non toxic and has magnetic weights on the bottom to hold the curtain where you want it.

This cotton netted bag that’s typically used for groceries, but makes the perfect holder for extra toilet paper and actually looks really pretty (in my opinion – I’m sure others will think it’s weird) hanging from a hook and out on display. Texture, pattern, neutral… it might be a grocery bag, but it fits in perfectly with my design aesthetic too.

This travertine footed tray to display soaps, candles, or a little vase by the sink – under $40.

This seagrass basket that is the perfect size to sit on the back of your toilet and store extra toilet paper, a pretty container of bath salts, toiletries, etc.

A couple different towels – this gorgeous Turkish bath towel for the double towel bar over the toilet + this set of 2 striped Turkish hand towels that would be perfect for the kitchen too. The other striped towel I have hanging on the hooks by the shower is older from Target.

A reed oil diffuser with dried botanicals like this or this one. It’s a great way to keep your bathroom smelling good without having to light a candle all the time. And it just looks really pretty!

    Good morning!

Is there any way you could tell me what color paint the shiplap in to it bathroom is painted? I’ve been staring at 50 different white paint chips for weeks and can’t decide! But I love your bathroom white color….

    Thank you for your help,
    Heather Gerace

Whites can be so hard to choose, even though you’d think it would be simple! To be completely honest, this wall color in my bathroom is a mixture of a few paints I had leftover, so I can’t give you an exact formula unfortunately. Was trying to save a few dollars here. 😂 But it is more of a soft, creamy white than a bright white, and I always go back to Dove White by Benjamin Moore. I actually just painted my bedroom this color as well!

Looks gorgeous! Love the colors and textures and warmth. Do you have a source for the cutie stool by the bathtub/shower?
