If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you probably saw the giant oops I made this weekend… I may have accidentally not closed our meat freezer in the garage all the way and came back to find 20+ packages bloody, half-thawed beef dripping all over. Eww! Yeah, it was definitely not my finest moment. I didn’t want to take any risks of the meat going bad, so I cleared my schedule for the weekend and cooked my little tail off. I had beef in the slow cooker, in the oven, on the stove… It was pretty crazy! After smelling and looking at beef for almost 3 days straight, I was in desperate need of something different for dinner. Enter: shrimp.

I love making dishes with shrimp because it cooks so quickly and you can have a fresh, delicious meal on the table in a matter of minutes. And after slow cooking beef all weekend, this was exactly what I needed! For this recipe, I toss the shrimp in a spicy seasoning made with paprika, cumin, cayenne, salt, and cinnamon. Wait… Cinnamon? Yes, Cinnamon! The ground cinnamon adds a unique warmth to the seasoning and makes the shrimp taste absolutely incredible.

The shrimp goes into a hot pan for just a few minutes on each side and then gets a finishing touch of fresh lime juice and chopped fresh cilantro. Perfection!

Even if you’re not a huge fan of spicy foods, I promise you’ll still love this recipe! The shrimp actually has more flavor than heat, and I like to serve a honey lime dipping sauce along with the shrimp. It is cool and refreshing and the perfect balance to the paprika and cayenne in the seasoning. Honey-lime is a match made in Heaven in my books!

This recipe not only tastes delicious, but I can make it from start to finish in under 10 minutes. It goes that quick! Season the shrimp, cook them quick, mix your dip, and you’re done! (Did you like my little song?) I like to serve this along with some rice and my chipotle lime corn, and even my little 3 year old loves this meal! You should definitely give it a try for dinner soon!

Spicy Cilantro Shrimp with Honey Lime Dipping Sauce
For the shrimp:
1 teaspoon paprika
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
1 tablespoon butter
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
2 tablespoons cilantro, chopped
Combine the paprika, salt, cumin, cayenne, and cinnamon in a large bowl. Add the shrimp and toss to fully coat the shrimp in seasoning. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp and cook about 2 minutes on each side. You’ll know the shrimp is done when it turns pink and curls into a “C” shape. Toss the shrimp with fresh lime juice and cilantro and serve with Honey Lime Dipping Sauce.
For the dipping sauce:
1 cup sour cream
1/3 cup cilantro, finely chopped
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
1 tablespoon honey
1 1/2 teaspoons grated lime peel
1/4 teaspoon salt
Mix all the ingredients and chill until ready to serve with Spicy Cilantro Shrimp.

This looks yummy! I would love to make this tonight for dinner. Should I use one or two pounds of shrimp for this recipe?

    • Liz Fourez says: September 20, 2013 at 10:19 am

Hi Vita! Thanks so much! For our family of four, 1 pound of shrimp worked just fine along with some side items. If you’re having any more than four, you’ll probably want to double the recipe. Hope you enjoy!

Absolutely! I use frozen shrimp all the time. I just put the frozen shrimp into a strainer and run cool water over them until they are thawed. Then you’re all ready to cook with them! Enjoy the recipe!

Can the shrimp be cooked and served later? Would it travel OK if chilled?

    • Liz Fourez says: December 2, 2015 at 9:19 am

Hi Patricia! I usually don’t recommend pre-cooking and reheating shrimp just because it can be overcooked so quickly. It really just takes a few minutes to cook through, but if you try it, you’ll have to let me know how it turns out!
