Lemon shake-ups are a classic Summertime beverage, and I look forward to a big glass every fair season! I’ve given this Summer staple a new twist with the addition of another delicious citrus: Oranges! This Orange Lemon Shake-up is sweet, refreshing, and perfect for Summer!

There are so many wonderful things that come with Summer, and one of the best (in my opinion) is carnivals and fairs! As a kid, I counted down the days until the carnival came to town, and I can distinctly remember the sights, sounds, and smells that filled the air that magical week. The flashing lights of the rides. The giggles of children. The beautiful fireworks in the sky. And the food… OH THE FOOD! Nothing in the world can top a carnival corn dog, funnel cake, and my favorite, lemon shake-up!
On a hot Summer day, there is absolutely nothing better than a giant lemon shake-up to quench your thirst, and I was thrilled when I found the recipe in a cookbook my Mother-in-law gave me. It really isn’t rocket science, but I have just never thought to make them at home before!
Now lemon shake-ups are delicious all on their own, but adding fresh oranges to the equation makes them even better! This drink is seriously SO refreshing and addicting that I went through almost an entire bag of lemons and oranges the first day I made them!

This is such a fun recipe to make with the kids too, because they will love getting to help shake their drinks! I’m telling you, the magic happens in the shake : )
And if you don’t have a cocktail shaker, don’t worry! Just find two cups that you can fit one inside the other to use as a shaker. There is no excuse not to try this recipe!

I like my shake-ups super sweet, but if you want to tone down the sweetness feel free to reduce the sugar to just a tablespoon or two. I think the amount in this recipe is just perfect to cut through the tartness of the citrus! And is there anything prettier than bright orange slices floating in your drink? So fun for Summer!

I’m absolutely in love with this Orange Lemon Shake-up recipe, and I know you will be too! Stock up on lemon and oranges next time you’re at the store, because you will be making this drink all Summer long!
So tell me… What is YOUR favorite food or drink from the fair?
