Favorite Gray Paint Colors

Have you ever spent weeks picking out a paint color, painted an entire room with it, and then realized you don’t like the color? I certainly have been there, and it makes picking out another color even that more daunting. My sister and I were chatting recently about picking out a paint color for her living room, and after looking through dozens of colors, I realized part of the problem is the overwhelming number of options there are. Lots of choices are great, don’t get me wrong, but narrowing down so many different shades and hues can be difficult to pin down that perfect color you’re looking for.

Our conversation really started making me think about how I go about picking paint colors, what some of my favorite go-to paints are, and ways I could help make it simpler for you to go through the color selection process. For the last ten years I’ve been trying out paint colors and plenty of the wrong ones, and I decided it would be a really fun series to start this year sharing my favorite paint colors so you won’t have to sort through hundreds of paint swatches at the store!

For me personally, I love simple white walls, and my little farmhouse is full of them. They make the house feel so clean and bright and are the perfect backdrop for just about any style decor. But I know that white walls aren’t for everyone and that many of you would love some help picking out other colors too. So this will be a great way for me to recommend a bigger variety of paint colors that will hopefully spark some decorating inspiration for you!

A Look Back at 2017

Hello, 2018. It’s hard to believe another year has come and gone, and while this one has been full of ups and downs personally, I am so happy with where I’m at today and the possibilities for what the future holds. In a lot of ways when I look back on this year, I feel like I just sort of coasted when it came to the blog. The year prior I wrote and released my first book, which was such a HUGE project for me, and between wanting to slow down a bit from the fast pace of author life and needing some calm in my personal life, I went into a little bit of survival mode here on the blog. This wasn’t a terrible thing though because I was able to really evaluate my time and priorities and where I wanted to take my business next. I’ve learned to be more intentional with my time and not work all hours of the day and night, which I’m totally guilty of. I’ve learned to make time for myself by going to the gym regularly (and actually loving it) and make time for the people in my life who are worth keeping. And I also took a few big steps forward in my career by opening up a little retail store close to my home in Indiana and began the process of overhauling my blog into a much more grown-up, professional, inspiring website that will hopefully launch sometime early this year. Nothing is guaranteed in life, but this year I’m committed to making changes to be a better me and making Love Grows Wild a better place to inspire you. I can’t wait to get started implementing these new changes in my life and business, but first I think it’s important to look back at what I did accomplish this year and the top posts that YOU found most inspiring from 2017!

Christmas Lights at Night

Here we are just days away from Christmas, and I find myself wanting to savor every moment of families gathering and evenings around the Christmas tree and holiday traditions and the joy on my boys’ sweet faces. The holidays can be hectic and at times stressful, but I think there is nothing more peaceful and serene than our little farmhouse all lit up on Christmas Eve waiting for Santa to arrive. The glow of the tree and candles burning all around as we set out sugar cookies and milk and read The Polar Express and snuggle into bed… Christmas music softly playing in the background… I wish we could bottle up the feeling of those moments to remember all year round.

Each year I join a group of friends to share a little tour of our homes at nighttime and try to capture the magic of Christmas Eve for you to enjoy. If you are here from Thistlewood Farms, welcome! I hope you feel the warmth of our home, the smiles on our faces, and the peace and beauty of this wonderful season. Step inside our farmhouse, sweet friends.

Christmas Entryway

It’s hard to believe that we’re less than a week away from Christmas now, but I think I’m just about ready. I have a few stocking stuffers to pick up, my mom and I are going to have our annual cookie baking day, and then we’re ready for the big day! I’m sure you’re busy finishing up your Christmas to-do lists too, but I wanted to stop in real quick and share one last space in our home decorated for the holidays.

Painted Mantel Makeover

Now that all the Christmas decorations are finished around the house, this week I was finally able to tackle some projects that have been waiting for some attention. I spotted this mantel months ago at the antique store where I have my booth, and even though it wasn’t exactly what I was looking for, it had a good price and I knew I could customize it later to fit the style of our house. After some design modifications and a creamy coat of Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint, this mantel is now even better than I imagined!

White and Cream Christmas Bedroom

I’ve already decked the halls in my kitchen, dining room and living room, and this week I finally got to work on my master bedroom, which might be my favorite space to decorate in the whole house. There is something so cozy about this room, and I absolutely adore the soft white and cream color palette I decided to go with this Christmas. It’s soothing and bright and cheerful and the perfect backdrop for a little baby Christmas tree in the corner of the room!

Our Beautiful New Tree

I have a Christmas tree confession to make. Last year I was inspired to do a very simple, minimalist tree in our living room and only added a few white poinsettias and large snowy pinecones on the tree. In my head, it was going to look like this amazing Scandinavian beauty, but instead the tree turned out looking bare and boring and cheap. I should have known better than to try doing this look on our very old tree that has definitely seen better days, but needless to say I was pretty disappointed in the way it turned out and barely included it in any pictures I shared last year. I know that how our tree looks is far from the most important thing during Christmas and we are our own worst critics, but it’s something I get so excited to do each year, and last year was a let down for sure.

This year I definitely wanted to redeem myself, and I am so excited to be part of the 12 Bloggers of Christmas with Balsam Hill with my beautiful new tree!
