Hi, sweet friends! I’ll admit it was a little depressing at first when all the Christmas decor came down and was packed away for the year. Part of me loves the clean, uncluttered blank slate, and the other part of me misses the coziness and light and warmth. The lights on the tree and wreaths in all the windows and presents waiting to be opened and cookies baking in the oven… it’s pretty hard to top that feeling, especially once the dreary, cold winter weather sets in.
So I decided to update the living room a little bit to help ease the transition with some new pieces from Birch Lane, and I’m really excited to show you the changes. It looks so much brighter in here to me now, and I finally feel like I’ve nailed the look I’ve always wanted in our living room. What a difference swapping out just a few little items can make!
And so another year begins on this little blog of mine…
It would be completely cliche to say something like, “this year has been full of ups and downs”, but quite frankly it has. At the beginning of last year, I was finally able to afford a complete renovation of our old farmhouse kitchen, and I’m still amazed at the before and after photos every time I look at them. And then in the midst of the renovation chaos, I wrote my very first book, A Touch of Farmhouse Charm. Those few months I spent planning, creating, decorating, photographing, writing, and editing 70 new tutorials for the book were some of the longest and most exhausting days of my life. But in the end, I realized that I could do way more than I thought I was ever capable of doing and that dreams don’t work unless you do.
I spent the summer working on a ton of outdoor projects, including a huge makeover of our little patio. I cannot wait until it’s nice outside again so I can enjoy my cozy retreat! The rest of the year I worked on decorating the farmhouse for each passing season and holiday, and I realized just how much I love this tiny, little home we live in. The end of 2016 was celebrated with the release of my book on December 6th, and to my utter surprise and shock, the book sold out and immediately went back into its second printing within just a week of the release date. It still feels completely surreal to be able to call myself a published author, but to see so many people buying and loving the book has been an experience that I can’t even put into words. Every time I open Instagram and see people sharing the book in their homes or projects they’ve made from the book, my heart is filled with joy and gratitude.
P.S. If you are still wanting to order a copy of the book, they should be back in stock soon! Go ahead and order, and it will be shipped as soon as it is available!
Christmas is now just around the corner, and today I get to share with you one of my favorite posts of the whole year. Over the last month or so I’ve given you a tour of what our little farmhouse looks like all decorated for Christmas during the day, but we all know that the true magic of the holidays happens at night when it’s all dark in the house except for the glow of Christmas lights on the tree. It’s beautiful and calm and peaceful and gives you a feeling unlike any other time of the year.
I’m so lucky to be part of the Christmas Nights Tour again this year with some amazing bloggers, and if you are just coming from visiting Kristen’s home at Ella Claire Inspired, I welcome you!
My hope for this tour is that you leave feeling the true spirit of Christmas… the quiet moments at home snuggled up by the Christmas tree and singing Christmas carols together and leaving milk and cookies for Santa on Christmas Eve. Here is our quiet, cozy little farmhouse glowing at night with Christmas lights…
The other day I was working on decorating our kitchen a little bit for the holidays, and I realized that this time last year we were still living with our old kitchen and just about to completely tear everything down almost to the studs. It feels like forever since we were living through that month long renovation with construction dust everywhere and eating microwave dinners more times than I want to count, but it is such an amazing feeling to have this beautiful space now, especially around the holidays.
I’ve been doing a ton of baking in here lately, and I have an amazing Gingerbread Bundt Cake recipe that I want to share with you today. It is so simple to whip up and makes a beautiful centerpiece for your holiday table with very little effort! But first, let’s take a little tour around the kitchen…
So many changes have been made to our little farmhouse since last Christmas, and it’s been both a challenge and a joy to have a new, fresh space to decorate this year for the holidays. One of my favorite little areas in our home is the entryway, complete with an antique armoire and mirror, coat hooks and a sweet, little bench, and the front door of my dreams. I recently partnered with Gordmans to create a festive, yet simple entryway for the holidays, and I am so excited to show you how this space turned out!
