As much as I’ve enjoyed all the fall decorating around the farmhouse lately, I have to admit that finishing up my front porch and patio has been a bit of a challenge when the temperature outside feels more like the middle of summer than the end of September. Not only has it been 90-95 degrees for the last week, but I was also having a tough time finding my favorite pretty pumpkins to style to patio with. It’s still fairly early in the season for all the pumpkins to be harvested and fall flowers to be available, so I had to go on a bit of a hunt to track down everything I wanted to decorate the patio with this year. I stopped by a local farmer’s market after getting a tip from a friend of mine, and the guy told me in just a few more days the farmer should be bringing in loads of heirloom pumpkins. Sure enough, when I drove by the market after the weekend I spotted exactly what I wanted and loaded up my Jeep with pumpkins in the most beautiful shades of green, blue, cream, and orange I’ve ever seen. If you know anything about me, you know I love decorating with neutrals, and these muted pumpkin colors made my heart explode with happiness this fall.
I decided to make my pumpkin haul the focal point of the patio and stacked them all together on the potting bench, just as if I brought them straight home from the pumpkin patch and left them in a beautiful, messy pile. I added a few more fall touches to the patio from Joss & Main like this autumn garland hung on an old ladder, these outdoor pillows in a beautiful cream and taupe color, a minimal twig wreath to decorate the potting bench, a pair of lanterns for candlelight in the evenings, and super cozy pompon throw blankets set out on the rocking chairs.
A little bit of plaid, some white mums sitting in old galvanized metal buckets, and the cutest little French bulldog to snuggle up with and watch the leaves fall made this space feel just perfect.
Nature has always been a huge inspiration in my decorating, but wow… isn’t this pumpkin color the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen?
I am so excited for the temperature to drop back down to normal at the end of this week so I can enjoy the windows open in the farmhouse again and all of the wonderful things this season brings, including leggings, tall boots, sweaters, and pumpkin lattes! I have a feeling we’ll be spending quite a bit of time out here on the patio as the days cool off and we sip hot cocoa while relaxing in the rocking chairs, watching Gunnar run around the yard chasing leaves. I wish you could be here to enjoy this with me because quite honestly this little patio is one of my favorite parts of the whole house!
To recap, here are the other spaces I’ve decorated this fall:
