Snickers Dates are the best guilt-free sweet treat – made with antioxidant-rich dark chocolate and a delicious high-protein peanut butter filling. Naturally sweet and satisfying, they’re the perfect post-meal dessert or wholesome snack to power your day.

Snickers Dates

Okay, I’ll admit… I was the first person to roll my eyes when I started seeing all these healthy date dessert recipes go viral on social media. I’m the type of person that eats healthy, but when I want a sweet treat, I don’t want something secretly made with chickpeas or whatever is currently trending at the moment. I want something untainted and pure and delicious.

But then I started reading all the health benefits of dates and curiosity got the best of me, and I bought some. I smeared a dollop peanut butter inside, sprinkled some nuts and chocolate chips on top, and tried it…

Snickers Dates

The verdict: delicious. Granted, anything smothered in peanut butter and chocolate probably is! I’ve tested out several different ways of making these Snickers-inspired dates – piping the peanut butter into whole dates vs. spreading it on halves, drizzling chocolate on top vs. dipping them, even rolling the dates together into a thin sheet and making a Snickers date “bark”… p.s. I didn’t like the bark because it made the dates super tough and chewy.

This is the version that was the least difficult/time consuming/messy and had the best macros – not that that’s the reason we’re eating them. This is meant to be a little treat! But by halving the dates instead of leaving them whole, you’re not eating so much sugar and carbs all at once. And the high-protein peanut butter reminds me of the consistency of the filling in Reese’s! Biggest tip: don’t skimp on the sea salt sprinkled on top. I promise you it balances all the flavors for the perfect salty-sweet bite!

I keep a container of these in my refrigerator at all times now as a little sweet bite after meals or some quick carbs before a workout. I know myself, and if I don’t have something like these Snickers dates on hand, I’m grabbing a handful of Oreos or something sugary and processed out of the pantry. These are something I can feel good about eating! Try them and tell me what you think!

20 medjool dates, sliced in half and pitted

1/2 cup creamy peanut butter

40g vanilla protein powder

1/2 cup peanuts, chopped

1 cup dark chocolate chips

1 tsp coconut oil

sea salt

Instructions

Slice the dates in half and remove the pit. In a bowl, add the peanut butter and vanilla protein powder and mix until well combined. Spread the peanut butter mixture into each halved date, and top with chopped peanuts.
