European Vacation Outfits

Recently my 15 year old son begged me to let him go on a school trip to Europe, to which I replied: “you’re not going to Europe if I’m not going to Europe.” And the kid who typically takes 5-10 business days to reply to my texts immediately messaged me back that they had one more chaperone spot open… so long story short in just a few day we’re taking off for France, Italy, and Spain. It’s the trip of a lifetime that I get to experience with my child, and I’m still pinching myself that I’m checking this off my bucket list.

I thought it would be fun to have you help me plan my outfits for our trip, so here’s what I’ve pulled so far for our European adventure:

A COUPLE NOTES:

They’ve asked us to pack ONLY A CARRY-ON for this 9 day trip, which I’m a little panicked about, so I’m pulling pieces from my closet that are versatile, neutral, and cohesive to make the most of the small amount I’m able to pack. The vibe I’m going for is chic, neutral, minimal, and most of all comfortable. The weather looks like it’s going to be in the high 50’s/low 60’s and a lot of rain, so I definitely lots of layers and a good raincoat. We’re going to be doing a lot of walking, so I want to make sure I’m comfortable and also warm.

I pulled a lot of loose, wide leg pants – My rule of thumb for putting an outfit together is if the pants are loose, go with a tighter top. And the opposite is also true. Tight pants + oversized shirt. For shoes I think I’m going with a classic white sneaker and a pair of black flats for a dressier option. Both could really be interchanged with any outfit depending on the weather. And I packed one thick cardigan coat and a weatherproof trench coat for rainy days.

There’s actually a special story behind the trench coat – it was my late grandmother’s, and it’s really sentimental to me that I get to travel Europe in her coat because she was probably the most elegant and put together woman I know.

I wanted a bag I could keep close on my body, and this leather crossbody goes with every single outfit and has anti-theft features that make it great for travel. I have a black and brown pair of sunglasses I love – both from Amazon. I’m bringing a black and beige hat for rainy days. Again, because I packed all neutrals, any shoe, hat, or accessory can be used with any outfit. I need one fancier outfit for a flamenco evening in Barcelona and a couple pairs of sweats for the plane ride because we have some long travel days ahead. I linked everything I could for each outfit, and let’s just hope it all fits in my carry-on… let me know if you have any questions!

Packing can be hard but you seem to have done a great job with mixable options.. Very cute outfits and they all look comfortable. Except for the black flats. My feet would be begging for mercy if I ever walked around in them for a full day. Love the white pants over the striped linen ones. But you also said it could be really rainy which means you’ll need a platform shoe so they don’t drag on the ground. I would also leave the gray 2-pc sweatsuit home. You have plenty of other nicer options. Have an amazing time! What a great opportunity for you and your son 🙂
