While I was playing around decorating the living room for fall this week, a few pumpkins and pretty fall things spilled onto this bookcase as well. I rarely, if ever, decorate for Halloween, but as I started styling this little space, I was inspired to give it a subtle “Halloween style” without the spiderwebs, skulls or bats. And since today is trick-or-treat day, I thought it would be fun to share with you!

Do you remember the pretty cognac leather pillows I added to our sofa for fall? I found some darling leather pumpkins to match, and since you can see into the living room from this view of the bookcase, I thought it would be the perfect place to put them. I started by setting the pumpkins on two different shelves close, but not right next to each other and on opposite sides. Then to bring in more of the traditional Halloween orange and black colors, I added some black candlesticks and an black framed vintage portrait.
I always like to add some simple white or neutral pieces to the shelves to help fill in around the main characters, in this case the pumpkins and black accents. I used a few books, vases, and candles to keep the shelves feeling open instead of cluttered.
I have a stack of beautiful antique books that I thought would be perfect for my Halloween-inspired look, and I rounded out the look with a few faux plants to bring in some greenery and balance to the shelves.
I know this may not be what you think of when you envision traditional Halloween decor, but I love that this feels fun and a little festive for the occasion, while still feeling like OUR home. I hope you enjoyed this little vignette today!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
