This post brought to you by FrogTape brand painter’s tape. All opinions are 100% mine.
A few weeks ago, I shared my dirty little secret with you… do you remember? Well the truth is, I’m a serious decor hoarder and my overflowing closet is in desperate need of a clean-out! I’m always shopping thrift stores and finding things that I know with just a little bit of elbow grease could be the perfect decor for my home. The problem is, I rarely have time to give those projects the attention they need! So I’m making it my mission to tackle all those hidden treasures and turn them from old and ugly to new and gorgeous! There are so many ways to give easy updates to pieces you already have in your home, and I love that I can do these mini makeovers on even the smallest budget. Take for example this bucket I recently gave a fabulous white and gray makeover…

This cute little pail started off fire engine red, and in the right house it would be adorable just as is. But there is NOTHING in my house that is red, so rather than getting rid of a perfectly good bucket I decided to give it a makeover!
I wanted to keep the lovely silver and wood handle, so I first taped that off with FrogTape painter’s tape. Have you ever used that stuff? I LOVE it! We painted almost our entire house top to bottom before we moved in, and it is the only tape we used! FrogTape® can be used on a variety of surfaces including unfinished wood, glass, metal, carpet, and stone. It is the only tape treated with paint block technology, a super absorbent polymer that reacts with the water in latex paint and instantly gels to form a micro-barrier that seals the edges of the tape. Basically, you don’t have to worry about any paint bleeds! You don’t want any of those ruining your project! And I love the convenient case it comes in to protect it from dust while you’re working.

First I gave the bucket an all-over coat of gray spray paint. I used a paint designed for use on metal, but you may want to use a metal primer first if not.

After that was completely dry, I decided to add some fun designs to the bucket. I took pieces of the painter’s tape and ripped them into long, thin pieces. Then I wrapped them randomly around the bucket in different directions to give it a modern look.

Then I sprayed over the tape with white paint creating a cool two-tone effect. After that dried, I couldn’t wait to peel the tape off and check out my new bucket! I love the messy gray lines and how the warm wood tone of the handle pairs with the cool white and gray color palette. Even though I tore the FrogTape® into messy pieces, the paint stayed exactly where it needed to, and I didn’t have a single touch-up to do!

I’m not sure yet exactly where my newest little pretty project will go, but I know I’ll find the perfect home for it! There are so many things you can do with containers like this to help organize things such as pens, make-up brushes, kitchen utensils, etc. I’m sure you’ll see this bucket all over my house in the future!

Love the warm colors! So fun.

I hoard junk too! Ahhhh! It’s currently taking up a corner in my office as we speak. I also have a corner out in our barn of all rusty farm junk for the landscaping, etc.

Maybe I need to add “reduce junk pile” to my project to-do list 🙂

I love that effect! I am a serious hoarder too… we had to have a garage sale recently because I wasn’t “allowed” to go to any more garage sales until I got rid of some of my own hoards:) You just never know what you might use something for, though! I would be thrilled if you have the chance to share this at our new mega-party Work it Wednesday – it goes live tomorrow morning at 7am PST. Each link will be shown on 4 blogs! The Happy Housie, The Blissful Bee, The Turquoise Home, and My Place for Taste:) Work it Wednesday. Hope to see ya there!

Red is one of my favourite colours but I really like your bucket makeover. The random design is awesome.

I love the way you used torn tape. That’s an effect I haven’t seen before. Looks great!
