My Aunt has been battling Crohn’s disease for as long as I can remember and in the past years has been in and out of the hospital with excruciating pain. Just a few weeks ago she was finally able to have surgery to help relieve her of this terrible disease, and I wanted to send her a card to let her know I’m thinking about her!
I made this “Bunting and Butterfly” card for my sweet Aunt, and I’m so excited to send it to her!
I also added strips of coordinating scrapbook papers to the edges of the card for more color and pattern.
I thought some white lace ribbon I had would be perfect behind the butterfly, but the stark white ribbon was too bright against the antiqued ivory card.
I glanced at the half-full cup of coffee still on my desk from that morning, and thought, “I know what coffee stains do my clothes, I bet it will do the same thing to my lace ribbon!” (Those are the strange thoughts that go on in a crafty mind!)
I dunked a small length of ribbon into the coffee and swirled it around for a minute or so. Then I pulled the ribbon out and laid it on a paper towel to catch the drips. Since I am too impatient to let it air dry, I used my hair dryer to make a quick job of it. Here’s what the lace ribbon looked like before and after a swim in my coffee:
Much more of the look I was going for! I used good old Elmer’s glue to attach the ribbon to the card.
For the inside of my card, I used small letter stamps that I absolutely adore to stamp a “get well soon” message.
I was so happy to have a chance to do some fun crafting and create this sweet card for my Aunt. I hope she likes it!
