The days are getting longer, the temperatures are rising, and it’s starting to look a lot like summer at our little farmhouse! Today I’m going to give you a look at our (early) summer decor and share some of the rooms we’ve been working on lately. Welcome to the Celebrate Summer Home Tour! Come on inside!

How to Hide Desk Cords

I think it’s safe to say that the number one question we received from our office makeover reveal was, “Where did you hide all the cords at your desk??”

Learn how to hide annoying computer cords from LoveGrowsWild.com - perfect for when you don't want your desk shoved against a wall!

Were you thinking the same thing? I honestly hadn’t even thought about including those details in the room reveal post, but you guys asked and I’m here to answer! I always try to be an open book here on the blog, so anytime you have a question or want to know more information about something, feel free to comment or shoot me an email. I do my best to answer!

I think part of the reason I didn’t go into detail about my cord-hiding tactics is because there was no ground-breaking stroke of genius that went into it… I literally grabbed my staple gun and went to town! But more on that in a minute… [Read more…]

Office Makeover Reveal

This day has been a full year in the making… the reveal of my office makeover!

A must-see makeover! Check out the transformation of this gorgeous home office decorated with vintage finds and tons of farmhouse charm at LoveGrowsWild.com

A whole year… yes, I know. What the heck took me so long, right? When I started this makeover last summer, I really wanted to challenge myself. I didn’t want to just slap a couple pictures on the wall, maybe paint a piece of furniture, and call it a day. I wanted to design a room from top to bottom that was beautiful, functional, organized, and 100% me. The problem was, (as I would soon discover) that I didn’t exactly know what “me” was. Let me explain… [Read more…]

Office Storage Hutch Makeover

Re-purposing old furniture is a great way to save money and one of my favorite ways to decorate our home. This storage hutch is a classic example of that! Check out the transformation of this outdated piece and see its new home in my office!

Old hutches and china cabinets make great storage for an office! See how this outdated piece gets transformed at LoveGrowsWild.com

We’re getting closer to the end of my office makeover!! You guys may recognize this storage piece from its former home in our dining room (check out the original video tour of the room here). This hand-me-down has beautiful detailing and provides a ton of storage, but the dark, outdated wood tends to completely take over the room, making it feel less like a bright, airy farmhouse and more like your grandma’s dining room from the 70’s. We certainly don’t have a bunch of fancy china that needs to be displayed in here (um… have you met my family full of rowdy boys?), so why not re-purpose this beauty into much-needed storage for my office?

Here’s the before… [Read more…]

Old Door and Office Sign

The office makeover is nearly complete! After weeks without seeing any sunshine, I finally was able to photograph a few of the last projects we did in here this week, so look for the final reveal on the blog soon! And just in time too… big changes are going to start happening in our master bedroom next week! But more on that later…

This project was more of a happy accident than anything else. Originally, this corner of the office was a little reading nook, but it never felt right to me. The chair was too small, the side table was too short, and I never really used it. Then I remembered an old door we had in our backyard last fall… it just might be the perfect rustic touch I needed in here! We pulled it out of our barn and set it up in the corner. Oh my… I’m in love!

Okay, so if you are friends with me on Instagram (you can follow me here!), you know that this wood beauty actually was painted white when we pulled it out of the barn. And at first, I LOVED the chippy white paint. I mean, it’s totally dreamy, right?

Well… because the door sat out in the elements for a few months, it took quite a toll on the paint job, and every time I walked into my office I would find more and more of my beautiful chippy white paint laying on the ground. (insert sad face)

One day, Jeremy walked into the office and said, “Um… hey babe… I know you like the rustic, vintage look and all, but that paint looks REALLY REALLY rustic… Like it’s all falling off, and you can see little raccoon paw prints on the paint right here.”

He was right. Sometimes I get caught up in the excitement of finding old treasures so much that I don’t see what’s really right in front of me. After that, all I could see was gross, creepy raccoon paw prints, and that was NOT what I wanted to see on my beautiful old door. Time for Plan B. (thanks for the reality check, darling.) DIY Framed Dry Erase Board

This project has been a TOTAL lifesaver for me, guys!

But before we jump into that, let me backtrack a little bit. So last summer I started a giant makeover on my office, and you may have noticed that I never really tied up all the loose ends on that makeover. That happened for a couple reasons: 1) I had one last MASSIVE piece of furniture to paint, and spray paint season unfortunately came to an end. Darn you, winter! I had to patiently wait until the weather was nice enough to bust out the paint sprayer again. And 2) I needed some time to let the design choices soak in a bit. I originally pictured my office with a more modern glam design, but I should have known not to stray too far from my rustic farmhouse roots because this room just never felt right to me.

So now that the weather is nice again, and I have a good handle on the design, I’m finally ready to get this room finished! I just ordered some new equipment to start filming video tutorials here in the office, so it’s time to check this bad boy off the list. But first… I need to get organized!

Get organized with this DIY Framed Dry Erase Board! It's simple to make and magnetic too! Get the full tutorial at LoveGrowsWild.com

My life seems to get crazier and more hectic as the blog grows and the boys get older, and I have such a hard time keeping everyone’s schedules straight. Two different baseball schedules, preschool, field trips, work trips, work deadlines, doctor’s appointments… is it wrong that all I want for Christmas is an assistant this year?

I decided to dedicate a little bit of wall space in my office for some sort of calendar/organizer, and I am in LOVE with how this turned out! The first thought that popped into my head was, CHALKBOARD! But honestly, chalk can be kind of messy, especially with how much I plan on using this piece. You may remember the dry erase menu board I made for my pantry awhile back, and let me tell you… we use this thing ALL the time! So why not use that same idea and turn it into a GIANT dry erase board for my office? [Read more…]

Styledx3 – Decorating with Air Plants

Sometimes blogging can get a little lonely. Most days I feel truly blessed to be able to do what I do (working from bed while still in my pajamas… heck yeah!), but sometimes I start to feel a little isolated. I work from home, have no co-workers (unless you count the 3 amigos I live with), and the only interaction I have with other humans is through a computer. Since starting Love Grows Wild almost 3 years ago now, I’ve become good friends with some of my fellow bloggers, and I am SO grateful for those friendships. They understand the joys and stresses that come with blogging and help maintain my sanity!

I met Stacy at a conference last year and even with just the short conversation we were able to have, I felt an instant connection to her. She recently invited me to join her new Styledx3 series where 3 bloggers are each sent the same decorative accessory and share how they styled it in their own homes. One accessory… styled 3 ways!
