Christmas Lights at Night

Here we are just days away from Christmas, and I find myself wanting to savor every moment of families gathering and evenings around the Christmas tree and holiday traditions and the joy on my boys’ sweet faces. The holidays can be hectic and at times stressful, but I think there is nothing more peaceful and serene than our little farmhouse all lit up on Christmas Eve waiting for Santa to arrive. The glow of the tree and candles burning all around as we set out sugar cookies and milk and read The Polar Express and snuggle into bed… Christmas music softly playing in the background… I wish we could bottle up the feeling of those moments to remember all year round.

Each year I join a group of friends to share a little tour of our homes at nighttime and try to capture the magic of Christmas Eve for you to enjoy. If you are here from Thistlewood Farms, welcome! I hope you feel the warmth of our home, the smiles on our faces, and the peace and beauty of this wonderful season. Step inside our farmhouse, sweet friends.

Christmas Dessert Table in the Dining Room

I’ve always said that since becoming a mom, Christmas is even more special as I watch my little ones experience the joys of the holiday for the first time. We bake cookies together and listen to Christmas music and wrap gifts and hang ornaments on the tree and write letters to Santa and drive around at night looking at Christmas lights… so many traditions and memories we make during this wonderful time of year. I think as parents we want to make these moments as special as possible for our kids, and as I started decorating our dining room for Christmas this week, I decided to skip the fancy table setting and surprise the boys with something totally magical and very memorable!

Cozy Neutral Thanksgiving Tablescape

Now that Thanksgiving is just a couple short weeks away, my mind is set on turkey and pumpkin pie and spending time with family and making our home feel extra cozy for this special time of year. I love coming up with new ways to decorate our table for the big Thanksgiving feast, and this year I wanted to go with something that would be easy to put together and look special for the holiday without feeling overly fussy. These were the perfect addition to add some elegance to the table and make my friends and family feel extra special! Fall into Home Tour | Our Entryway

Welcome to my little farmhouse, sweet friends. As you step through the door, this entryway is the first thing you see, so I always try to make this space feel cozy and inviting. The changing seasons give me an excuse to have a little fun with the decor in our entryway, and I love relaxed, casual look I created this year with candles, textured pillows, soft blankets, pretty flowers, and of course plenty of pumpkins.

Softening the Farmhouse

You know how little girls like to play dress up with their dolls? Or how mothers with daughters get to buy cute, ruffly dresses and bows for them to wear? Well, I’m a mom of boys, and the definition of playing dress up around here involves super hero costumes with masks and a weapon. Still cute, but not quite the same. ūüôā

That’s part of the reason I think I love interior design and decorating my farmhouse so much. It allows me to be creative and try different things, and I’ve noticed that my style lately has leaned more towards a much more feminine, softer vintage farmhouse feel. I adore the industrial look of hard metal and dark rustic wood, but at this stage of my life (newly single) my heart is drawn more to soft lace and ruffles and faded wood tones and light, bright white spaces. I’ve noticed that my design choices have been slowly softening our home, and I love the blend of feminine romance and vintage farmhouse that is happening.

I think it all started when I designed my master bedroom…

French Country in the Dining Room

I hinted a few weeks ago that I was thinking about making some changes in the dining room, and it all started with wanting new dining chairs to replace the black metal ones I had. Well, I found the perfect chairs that I totally fell in love with, and I should have known that one thing would lead to another and another… and another! That’s just how I roll apparently. After weighing quite a few chair options, I settled on a pair of chairs with a¬†traditional¬†French country feel to them,¬†which¬†I think fits in beautifully¬†with farmhouse style. I was so inspired by these gorgeous chairs that¬†I ended up making¬†a few other changes in the dining room to reflect more of that softer, feminine, romantic French country look, and I’m loving the way this room feels now. What a difference!
