By Rachel of Maison de Pax
Hi Love Grows Wild Readers! It’s Rachel again from Maison de Pax, and I’m excited to share with you today a SUPER easy way to create interesting wall art. With beautiful, natural, aged patina plus a little chalkboard surface to change with the seasons, this window screen turned chalkboard is a great addition to any room!
When we had the exterior of our house painted a couple of years ago, the painter found one of the old window screens that had not been removed like the rest. Since our windows have been painted shut for years, window screens are rather unnecessary. 😉 I thought it was the perfect size for a blank wall in my dining room.
So I found an old piece of backer board (I think it was formerly in a picture frame) and painted it with chalkboard paint. I cut out any remaining screen, cleaned the frame thoroughly, screwed the new chalkboard into the back, and added a little dark walnut stain on some of the distressed places on the frame to give it more contrast. Done and done.
It’s now hanging in my dining room, and I love how the rustic quality contrasts my French dining furniture…
But compliments the weathered wood box I made for my centerpiece.
I also love how it can be changed out for the seasons or hold our menu for a party… I even layer signs and buntings over it at times.
It’s the perfect, versatile piece of art!
What do you think? Have you turned any “found” objects into chalkboards? If you enjoy turning trash to treasure, be sure to check out these other projects:

Love this idea. I was given several old window frames and have been looking for ways to use them. This is a great start.

I think you do too! Lol! Thanks for stopping by! ๐
Where did you find that chandelier?
Hi Kasia! That chandelier was actually part of the house when Rachel moved in, so she’s not sure where it came from. Sorry we couldn’t help! ๐
