I originally renovated this kitchen 9 years ago now, and while there are some elements I still love, there are definitely some things I would change. That’s the beauty of our homes though – they can grow and evolve and change with us over the years. While I’m not ready to tackle any big projects right now (I’m looking at you, tile floor), I did work on a little update this weekend, and I’m so happy with how it turned out. I hung linen pinch pleat cafe curtains on the bay window by our little seating area, and it added the perfect amount of privacy and softness and subtle detail to the space.
Kitchens are full of hard surfaces, from the counters and backsplash to flooring and cabinets. There isn’t a lot of opportunity to bring in any soft or warm elements, so things like curtains, rugs, upholstered chairs or barstools, or even just pretty kitchen towels can make a big difference.
I had full length floor to ceiling curtains hanging on either side of the bay window for years, but they never felt quite right. I fell in love with the idea a little cafe curtain hung on the bottom part of the window and sourced everything I needed:
petite cafe curtain rod
linen pinch pleat cafe curtains
curtain rings
They were very simple to install on the window trim – just two small screws into each bracket (all included with the curtain rod). Then I installed the pin hooks into the pinch pleat seam of the curtains (also included with the curtain) and hung them on the curtain rings. These particular curtains do come with a set of black rings, but I wanted oil rubbed bronze to match the rods I picked out. Two curtains come in each package, and I used two on each of the small outer windows and three on the larger middle window.
I love that the cafe curtains gave this space some privacy, but still let plenty of light into the kitchen. They’re the perfect natural linen color and added so much texture and softness the room really needed. Any questions? Let me know!
