Ideas for Decorating with Book Pages

I love old vintage books, and using them to decorate your home is a great way to add lots of charm and character! I’ve shown you a few book projects before like how to re-cover books with your favorite song lyrics, and today I’m going to show you how I updated a piece of furniture with old book pages!

Do you remember the post I did before the holidays on creating a perfect table setting? I made a table runner out of book pages and absolutely loved the vintage look of the pages all scattered across the table. It looked stunning underneath the rustic plate chargers and centerpiece!
And the best part was how easy the table runner was to make! Can you guess what I used to hold all the book pages together? You probably already have some at home! You can see the full tutorial on my Book Page Table Runner here.

Well after the holidays were over and it was time to put my table runner away, I couldn’t figure out how to fold it without ruining it. I knew my kids would eventually spill something on it if I left it out, and I really didn’t have the extra space to store it anyway.
That’s when I decided to get a little creative…

We purchased new living room furniture last year, and…

Okay, let me clarify before I hear it from my husband… I purchased new living room furniture last year because I was a sucker for the awesome Black Friday deals I found! We had been living with a hideous brown and orange floral couch from his grandmother and then a huge blue sectional from my grandparents since we had been together, and I JUST COULDN’T TAKE IT ANYMORE! So I made a total impulse purchase while Christmas shopping on Black Friday for all new living room furniture. Whoops! Sorry hunny : ) Back to the story…

We purchased beautiful new living room furniture last year, and the tables we got have a slight lip around the edge of the top, creating a tray in the center of the tabletop. Trying to protect our new impulse purchase, we had plexiglass cut to fit inside the tops of the tables, and I always thought it would be so fun to add some pretty fabric or paper underneath the glass to dress up the table. The plexiglass would hold it in place, so I could essentially change it out with the seasons if I wanted to!

Do you see where I’m going with this?

I laid my gorgeous book page table runner across one of the tables, and it fit almost perfectly! I used a pencil to mark the perimeter of the table onto the book pages, and cut away the extra with scissors.

Our newly decorated sofa table now sits upstairs in the hallway between the two bedrooms, so I apologize for the lighting in these photos. There’s absolutely zero natural light!

I kept the color scheme of the table decorations neutral with creams and blacks to accentuate the vintage book pages.

I hung this giant pocket watch clock on the wall over the table, which I purchased with a gift certificate I received from my furniture store for buying the new living room furniture. Whoot Whoot! See honey, I do save us money : )

I also added one of my favorite pictures of our family farm back in 1948, which happens to perfectly fit in with my vintage look.

I hope I’ve given you some inspiration to incorporate books in your home decor, and be sure to follow me on Pinterest to find more ideas like this!
SO TELL ME, what was the last impulse purchase YOU made? Was it something small like lipgloss or something big like my furniture purchase? I’d love to hear from you!

I use books as decor all over my house – love what you have done. Do you worry they will become obsolete with e readers? Hate to admit, but I got one for Christmas and I love it :\
Hope you can stop by the enchanted oven.

I love this, probably because I love the idea of decorating with text/words. I have two canvases that have fun sayings on them and now I’m thinking this idea would work well to tie the room together. Found you via Tidy Mom link party.
