Spring Master Bedroom

I think the last few times I’ve shared my master bedroom here on the blog was during the holidays or sometime when it was all decorated for a certain season. So I wanted to share a little update of what my bedroom currently looks like in everyday life, plus a few updates I’ve made in here recently… bedding, wall art, plants, and pillows to name a few!

My bedroom is probably one of my favorite rooms to photograph in the house because it has quite a few features that really make the photographs pop… the soft, romantic lace curtains hung from a (faux) wood beam, the lines of bright white shiplap on the walls (which we installed with this tutorial), the contrast of the strong iron bed frame against all the white in the room… it all comes together beautifully through my camera lens. But the camera also points out what the room is lacking when I upload the photos on my computer and start to edit them. For a long time I’ve just had a basic white quilt on my bed and usually an extra throw blanket draped over the top. But this winter the thin quilt wasn’t very warm, and in photos the quilt all by itself looks very flat and hard. At the end of a long day when you want to crawl into your bed and sleep, you want it to look soft and cozy and plush, not like a hard cot with a tiny blanket.

So to add an extra layer of softness and warmth to my bed, I bought a down alternative comforter and a feminine ruffled duvet in white. What a HUGE difference this made! It feels like I’m sleeping in a fancy hotel bed every night, and the soft ruffles make the bed look so much more cozy and inviting.

Spring in the Dining Room

Warm spring weather is so close now in Indiana that I can almost smell and taste it, and I cannot wait to see the trees in my yard covered in beautiful blooms. The sun stays up till almost 8pm now, and I am loving all the extra sunshine and warmth! I’ve slowly been bringing little touches of spring into the farmhouse lately, and I wanted to share our bright and cheerful dining room with you today for a few reasons. First, I made some new artwork for the wall that I want to tell you about (you can find that tutorial here!). And also, I wanted to document the current state of how this space looks because I’m thinking about changing some things around in here soon. I know, I know… always something going on around here! Decorating our home is a constant process for me as our needs as a family change and also as my style evolves over time. Even though this house may not be my perfect dream home or as large as I’d like it to be, I get so much enjoyment out of decorating it and creating spaces for our family to enjoy and make memories in. And right now my mind is thinking about new chairs for the dining room table! But more on that soon… let me show you what our dining room looks like today!

Front Porch Update

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of At Home. All opinions are 100% mine.

Hello, my loves. Remember last year when I gave our teeny, tiny farmhouse front porch a makeover? A new light fixture, wooden planters, and some bold house numbers painted on our front door… it was a big improvement! This year I thought I’d add to my cute, little front porch with a few new pieces for spring.

I started with the wooden X planters I built last year. They added some much-needed warmth and character to the front of our house, and although I had real plants growing in them last summer, I decided to move my boxwood topiaries up here for now and see how I like them. Do you remember these topiaries from my little white barn last week? Even though they were darling next to the barn, I think I like them up on the front porch even more!

Little White Barn Spring Decor

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of At Home. All opinions are 100% mine.

When we moved into this farmhouse almost four years ago, I fell in love with the large yard, beautiful trees, and this adorable little white barn that sits just behind our house.

After sitting out in the elements for years and years, the barn has a beautiful chipped paint finish, and I just love how perfectly imperfect it is. Last year, Jeremy found that gorgeous green light fixture hiding in one of our other barns on the farm, and even though it doesn’t work anymore, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it. Jeremy installed it above our little barn door, and I think it adds the perfect pop of color against the white paint. It makes my antique, farmhouse-loving heart swoon, for sure!

Since we added the light last year, I have wanted to decorate the barn more, and I finally found the perfect pieces to make it look even more adorable than it already is.

Spring Armoire

Yesterday was the first official day of spring, so I thought today we be the perfect time to do a little spring decorating and introduce you guys to a gorgeous new piece of furniture we added to our living room. Some of you have already seen Instagram sneak peeks of this beautiful antique armoire we brought home a few weeks ago, and I am so excited to finally get it all styled and decorated and up on the blog. Isn’t she beautiful?

The last few weeks have been pretty chaotic around the farmhouse, as I had to get the entire house ready for photo shoots for my book coming out on December 6th. Every single room got a face lift in the process, but for weeks I couldn’t figure out exactly what I wanted to do in the living room. No matter what I put up on the walls or how many pillows I stacked on the couch, the room was lacking personality and character, but I just couldn’t put my finger on what it needed. [Read more…]
