Spring Office Update

I don’t know where time has gone, but it’s been a full two years since I’ve shown my office on the blog! I’m not all that surprised because my poor office has somehow become more of an all-purpose storage room for anything that doesn’t have a home, and since I opened up my shop last summer, my office is usually stacked with boxes and piles of stuff to refinish, price, and haul over to the shop. It certainly hasn’t been anything to decorate, look pretty, and show you guys! But I’m a firm believer that in order to have a calming, productive space to work in, you have to make it a space you LOVE to be in, so I’ve slowly been working on cleaning, organizing, re-arranging, and decorating my office over the last few months, and here is the current state of my office conveniently located just 37 steps away from my bed.

Spring Tablescape

In partnership with Bed Bath & Beyond // Even though the weather outside still doesn’t look much like spring yet, I’m definitely ready to bring some spring into our home, and Easter coming up this weekend is the perfect excuse to do a little bit of decorating in the dining room. This spring has been pretty hectic, and I’ll admit that Easter kind of snuck up on me this year. It’s not like I go over the top with decorating or do huge Easter gifts for the kids, but I still haven’t quite had my mind in Easter mode yet. I decided to focus part of my week on getting groceries and the table ready for our Easter meal, and I love the way this simple spring tablescape turned out in our new (ish) dining room. It’s cute and a little bit whimsical for the holiday, but still very elegant with just a touch of spring color to make the table pop. Let me tell you about all the pretty, little details…

Spring Master Bedroom

I think the last few times I’ve shared my master bedroom here on the blog was during the holidays or sometime when it was all decorated for a certain season. So I wanted to share a little update of what my bedroom currently looks like in everyday life, plus a few updates I’ve made in here recently… bedding, wall art, plants, and pillows to name a few!

My bedroom is probably one of my favorite rooms to photograph in the house because it has quite a few features that really make the photographs pop… the soft, romantic lace curtains hung from a (faux) wood beam, the lines of bright white shiplap on the walls (which we installed with this tutorial), the contrast of the strong iron bed frame against all the white in the room… it all comes together beautifully through my camera lens. But the camera also points out what the room is lacking when I upload the photos on my computer and start to edit them. For a long time I’ve just had a basic white quilt on my bed and usually an extra throw blanket draped over the top. But this winter the thin quilt wasn’t very warm, and in photos the quilt all by itself looks very flat and hard. At the end of a long day when you want to crawl into your bed and sleep, you want it to look soft and cozy and plush, not like a hard cot with a tiny blanket.

So to add an extra layer of softness and warmth to my bed, I bought a down alternative comforter and a feminine ruffled duvet in white. What a HUGE difference this made! It feels like I’m sleeping in a fancy hotel bed every night, and the soft ruffles make the bed look so much more cozy and inviting.

Spring in the Dining Room

Warm spring weather is so close now in Indiana that I can almost smell and taste it, and I cannot wait to see the trees in my yard covered in beautiful blooms. The sun stays up till almost 8pm now, and I am loving all the extra sunshine and warmth! I’ve slowly been bringing little touches of spring into the farmhouse lately, and I wanted to share our bright and cheerful dining room with you today for a few reasons. First, I made some new artwork for the wall that I want to tell you about (you can find that tutorial here!). And also, I wanted to document the current state of how this space looks because I’m thinking about changing some things around in here soon. I know, I know… always something going on around here! Decorating our home is a constant process for me as our needs as a family change and also as my style evolves over time. Even though this house may not be my perfect dream home or as large as I’d like it to be, I get so much enjoyment out of decorating it and creating spaces for our family to enjoy and make memories in. And right now my mind is thinking about new chairs for the dining room table! But more on that soon… let me show you what our dining room looks like today!

Front Porch Update

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of At Home. All opinions are 100% mine.

Hello, my loves. Remember last year when I gave our teeny, tiny farmhouse front porch a makeover? A new light fixture, wooden planters, and some bold house numbers painted on our front door… it was a big improvement! This year I thought I’d add to my cute, little front porch with a few new pieces for spring.

I started with the wooden X planters I built last year. They added some much-needed warmth and character to the front of our house, and although I had real plants growing in them last summer, I decided to move my boxwood topiaries up here for now and see how I like them. Do you remember these topiaries from my little white barn last week? Even though they were darling next to the barn, I think I like them up on the front porch even more!

Before we get started, I want to say thank you so much for all your sweet comments on our patio makeover. They mean the world to me, and I hope you feel inspired to tackle your own outdoor spaces now too! And yes, I will have a tutorial coming up soon for the white potting bench we built!

When I first got asked to participate in this patio makeover tour, I thought, “oh boy… how am I going to make this work?”

For the last few years, our patio has been a catch-all for random outdoor furniture, the kids’ toys, and other miscellaneous junk. Jeremy and I have plans for building a deck on the back of the house hopefully soon, so I have never really given much thought to doing anything with our patio. It’s quite small and just to the left of the patio sits a big fenced-in area for our dogs that isn’t exactly very pretty to look at. So what’s a girl to do? [Read more…]
