Pumpkin Patch Fall Patio

As much as I’ve enjoyed all the fall decorating around the farmhouse lately, I have to admit that finishing up my front porch and patio has been a bit of a challenge when the temperature outside feels more like the middle of summer than the end of September. Not only has it been 90-95 degrees for the last week, but I was also having a tough time finding my favorite pretty pumpkins to style to patio with. It’s still fairly early in the season for all the pumpkins to be harvested and fall flowers to be available, so I had to go on a bit of a hunt to track down everything I wanted to decorate the patio with this year. I stopped by a local farmer’s market after getting a tip from a friend of mine, and the guy told me in just a few more days the farmer should be bringing in loads of heirloom pumpkins. Sure enough, when I drove by the market after the weekend I spotted exactly what I wanted and loaded up my Jeep with pumpkins in the most beautiful shades of green, blue, cream, and orange I’ve ever seen. If you know anything about me, you know I love decorating with neutrals, and these muted pumpkin colors made my heart explode with happiness this fall.

Simple Late Summer Patio

Ever since I spruced up our patio last year, this has been my favorite place to relax in the evenings when the weather is nice. I added seating out here to create a gathering place, a coffee table made from old barn beams, and a gorgeous potting bench I designed and built that also doubles as a fantastic serving piece when we have company over. This is where the boys and I relax after school and practice their spelling words, where we watch our new puppy, Gunnar, run around the yard until his little legs get tired and he crashes into the grass, where I bask in the sun soaking up every last ounce of summer, and where we sit and eat ice cream after dinner and watch the lightning bugs start to illuminate the fields all around our little farmhouse.

Fall Patio

I cannot get enough of this beautiful fall we’re having. The leaves are finally starting to turn here, and the weather has been nothing short of beautiful. Most days are still warm and sunny, but we’ve had just enough chilly, rainy days too that make you want to throw on a cozy sweater and sip on a mug of hot chocolate. And I’ve needed a reason to finally wear my collection of cute boots that I seem to keep adding to throughout the year… : ) I truly love this season!

I’ve shared quite a few different spaces from our little farmhouse dressed up for fall over the last month or so… from our country kitchen, to the cozy living room, to a simple fall table setting, to our master bedroom retreat, to our festive front porch

… and now I get to share probably my favorite space of all with you… our patio! After giving this tiny concrete slab in our backyard a big makeover this summer, I couldn’t let this season go by without adding a touch of fall to our sweet, little patio. This has been the perfect place to sit outside during the day, looking at the gorgeous colors on the trees and feeling the warm sunshine on my face, and my favorite spot to sit under the stars at night with candles lit and a cozy blanket wrapped around me.

Simple Farmhouse Front Porch

This post is sponsored by our friends at Joss and Main // Hello, darlings! You’ve seen plenty of fall decorating on the inside of our house over the last few weeks, but you didn’t think I’d forget about the outside of our little farmhouse, did you? Our front porch is the first thing you see when you pull into our driveway, so even though it is small, I want it to be welcoming.

I put an old barrel that we pulled from one of our barns next to the door and set some candle lanterns on top for pretty lighting in the evening. I love these little teak stools that I just picked up, which are the perfect size for displaying pumpkins or colorful mums this time of year. The porch is simple, but I think it feels charming and inviting!

DIY Potting Bench with Decorative Roof

A few months ago, I never imagined our tiny, barren patio would be a place I would actually enjoy. With a little bit of elbow grease, a few DIY projects, and some new patio furniture, we completely transformed this space, and it is hardly recognizable now! (You can see the before and after here!)

We entertain friends out here in the evenings, relax in our cozy chairs while the kids run around the yard, and soak up the sunshine surrounded by my growing garden of potted plants and flowers. This patio might be one of my favorite makeovers to date! And one of the big reasons this makeover is at the top of my list is because of the huge, beautiful, and super versatile piece of furniture we built that became the focal point of the whole patio…

I love this time of year on the farm. The weather is finally warm and all the trees are starting to look full and green again after a long, cold winter. Right next to our big white barn in the backyard sits a beautiful tree that I’ve always thought would be the perfect place to have an outdoor dinner party. So a few weeks ago, that’s exactly what I did!
