We started planning this makeover last summer when I first found out about the book deal. We had always kicked around the idea of remodeling our kitchen at some point, but after we accepted an offer to write a book all about decorating our farmhouse, we decided it was time to kick our plans into high gear and get the job done. Jeremy and I are used to tackling most projects ourselves, but we knew the kitchen would be a massive undertaking, and with the book deadline just a few short months away, we knew we had to bring in some help.

We went through Lowe’s for part of our bathroom remodel, and I was super pleased with their customer service, so we decided to go with them again for the kitchen. They have a project specialist who worked one-on-one with us to plan the design, help us pick out products, order everything we needed, and organize the entire project through to the end. She set us up with a PHENOMENAL contractor, and they got started just after Christmas.

But before we get to all the fun makeover stuff, I suppose we better start with “the before”, huh? Brace yourselves, guys. This little farmhouse kitchen was in desperate need of a makeover! And I apologize in advance for the quick, poorly-lit photos I had about 5 minutes to snap before the sun set on the night before kitchen demolition started. If you haven’t read the post I wrote about prepping for our kitchen reno yet, I recommend you stop there next!

So let me take you on a little tour of the farmhouse… [Read more…]

Winter Entryway

Winter has always been a decorating challenge for me since we moved into our little farmhouse. The door we use as our front door doesn’t open into a nice, spacious, entryway with a well-organized coat closet… it opens into our dining room. There’s no closet and no space to create a mudroom of sorts, but I think after almost 4 years of living here, I’ve figured out a good solution.

This simple farmhouse entryway is perfectly decorated for winter with large coat hooks, a rustic bench, and a place for snow-covered boots. See more photos at

We’re in the thick of Indiana winter right now, which means that big, heavy coats, gloves, scarves, and wet, snow-covered boots are all part of our daily attire. Without a proper entryway, where do we put all this stuff? Here is what the dining room/entryway looked like this fall: [Read more…]

Old Door, New Bench

Do you remember this old door that’s been hanging out in my office? Yeah, that crooked one without much of a purpose? Well, it just got a pretty big makeover, and now not only is it functional… REALLY functional actually, but it is also the most beautiful piece of furniture I have ever laid my eyes on! Take a look at the new bench we have in our entryway:

It’s not often that I get THIS excited over a project, but this bench has completely stolen my heart. I was sitting in my office late one afternoon, typing away on a blog post, and somehow the idea hit me… I wonder if I could cut the door up into pieces and turn it into some kind of bench? I have been on the hunt for an old, antique church pew for our entryway for awhile now and have had little to no luck finding one even close to my price range. Maybe, just maybe, I could make this door into the church pew bench I’ve been looking for. [Read more…]

Top 10 Projects of 2015

Wow… here we are in 2016! Jeremy and I had a fun, quiet New Year’s Eve with some friends of ours, and now I’m snuggled up in bed catching up on TV, laundry and sleep. I can’t help but think about the last year and reflect on all the things that happened in 2015…

  • We escaped Indiana’s cold winter and took the boys to Disney last January.
  • Jeremy and I started a major decorating overhaul on our living and dining room, which is still a work in progress today. We painted, added board and batten, built new furniture and completely redecorated.
  • I finally sold my 11 year old Buick and pulled the trigger on my dream Jeep.
  • I celebrated the 3rd birthday of Love Grows Wild.
  • We had a successful planting and harvest season on the farm.
  • I continued to update our little farmhouse and focused on the master bedroom, bathroom and my office.
  • My baby started kindergarten, and I spent many nights and weekends watching the boys play their sports. There is nothing I love more than being a football and wrestling mom!
  • I was honored to work with some amazing brands this year and had a chance to do some really exciting things… I filmed my first video series with the American Dairy Association Mideast… I partnered with Bath Fitter for an amazing transformation of our bathroom… and I visited the Red Gold Tomato factories and met the families and growers behind the brand. I am beyond grateful for these brand relationships that help me continue doing what I love to do.
  • And last, but certainly not least, I was contacted by a book publisher and offered my first book deal. I still feel like I need someone to pinch me when I say that! After a few months of meetings and negotiations, I gladly accepted their offer and have been working feverishly on the book ever since. My book deadlines are coming up in early spring, and the book will be available for purchase just before the holidays!

I’ve learned so many things over the last year, but probably the most significant change I made was allowing myself to let go of any fear and just GO for it. I quit making excuses for why our house couldn’t look a certain way or why I couldn’t do this or that with my business. Anyone can have big dreams, but it takes a whole lot of hustle and hard work to make them come to life. I took risks, trusted my instincts, and grew my business by leaps and bounds this year. Of course, there were many times that I doubted myself and cried tears of worry. I questioned my decisions and jealously compared my journey with other bloggers’. But this year I woke up every day knowing that my goals and dreams would only happen if I MADE them happen. 2015 was a big step towards those goals, and I cannot wait to see where Love Grows Wild is by the end of 2016!

Of course, Love Grows Wild would mean nothing without you guys, and I am so very grateful that you choose to follow me on this journey. As I always tell my babies, I love you to the moon and back! I shared the 10 most popular recipes from 2015 here the other day, and today we’re counting down the top 10 projects from the year. Which one was YOUR favorite?

Our tub was in bad shape, and the entire bathroom needed a major refresh. We started with a complete overhaul of our tub and shower by Bath Fitter, which you can read about here and here. Then we ripped up the old flooring and added a beautiful mosaic tile (details here). The next week we added a planked wall treatment and a new vanity and did LOTS of painting (details here). And now I am SO excited to show you our beautiful new farmhouse bathroom!

FYI: If you want to know where we found all the items for our bathroom, I’ve included a source list at the end of the post!
