Orange Lemon Shake-up

This summer has been a busy one so far, with me finishing up final edits on my book and plenty of jobs up at the farm to be done. Thank goodness for our two eager little boys who love to help Daddy wash tractors. But in between all the long work days, we’re having a lot of fun too with pool days, drive-in movies, bonfires, and occasionally an ice cream cone or two. Or three.

Lately though, unless I’m able to be near a body of water, I try to stay in the A/C as much as possible… it has been smoking hot lately! My favorite way to cool off this summer has been a recipe that I actually shared eons ago, but thought that since I only had about 2 followers back then (and one was probably my sweet mom), it was about time to bring it back to the blog.

Lemon Poppy Seed Muffins

Hello, sweet friends! I know it’s been a few weeks since I’ve shared a new recipe, but I’ve had a TON of house updates to catch you all up on. I hope you’ve been enjoying seeing the changes here at our little farmhouse!

In my kitchen today is…

Lemon Poppy Seed Muffins

Sweet, moist, and fluffy poppy seed muffins filled with fresh lemon flavor and topped with a thick, creamy lemon icing. These light and bright muffins get their flavor from a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and lemon zest, while a scoop of Greek yogurt adds both moisture and protein to the recipe. Try them for breakfast or brunch served with fresh fruit and coffee!

Toasted Chili Cheese Bread

Need a quick and easy appetizer? Try this Toasted Chili Cheese Bread with tons of gooey cheese and a spicy kick of chili! This post is brought to you by our friends at EVITE® and HORMEL®.

This Toasted Chili Cheese Bread is the perfect quick appetizer and SO delicious! Tons of gooey cheese with a spicy kick of chili! Recipe at

I have to be honest, guys. I’m kind of kicking myself with this recipe because it would have been PERFECT for the big game last month. A hot, crusty loaf of bread smothered in spicy chili and two types of ooey gooey cheese melted over top… now does that sound like football food or what? Regardless, this recipe is really delicious, and I think you’re going to love it!

The idea for this recipe came to me as a play on my boys’ favorite dip in the entire world… Chili Cheese Dip. I posted the recipe for it years ago, and despite the fact that the photos are horrendously ugly (seriously, go look at how bad they are!), that chili cheese dip has almost become my most popular recipe of all time! And really, it doesn’t surprise me… just 3 ingredients and a couple minutes in the microwave gives you the most addictive appetizer your taste buds have ever experienced. So naturally, I wanted to revamp the recipe for you a bit and combine it with another popular Love Grows Wild recipeRanch Bread.

The result is a toasted cheesy bread made with my beloved chili cheese dip ingredients: cream cheese, Cheddar cheese, and HORMEL® Chili No Beans. The chili is super convenient for quick and easy recipes like this and adds a great spicy kick to the bread. My family doesn’t do overly spicy foods, so the subtle heat in the HORMEL® Chili No Beans is perfect for us. Now that the kitchen remodel is finished (hallelujah!), I thought I’d give you a little play-by-play on how I make this recipe:

Creamy Chicken Noodle Soup

It’s winter. It’s cold. It’s comfort food season, folks! And to me, there is just about nothing more comforting than a big bowl of steaming hot soup to warm the body and soul. My family loves when they smell a big pot of my chicken noodle soup cooking away on the stove, and as much as I adore that quick and easy classic recipe, this winter I’ve turned things up a notch. Instead of a BROTHY chicken noodle soup, this version is THICK and CREAMY and even more comforting than the original!

Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie

Today sounds like the perfect day to share a new smoothie with you guys! I mean, it’s still January, right? So we’re all still trying to hold onto our healthy diet resolutions, and I don’t know about you, but the easiest way for me to commit to better eating is to include a healthy shake or smoothie into my daily routine. It’s a no brainer… pop some yummy ingredients into a blender, and in just a few seconds I have a nutritious, protein-packed breakfast or post-workout snack that keeps my energy tank full for the day.

This quick and easy Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie makes a great healthy breakfast or snack! Peanut butter lovers... this is the smoothie for you! |

And I have to be honest with you guys… with the book deadline just over a month away, I need all the energy I can get right now! I’m finishing up the last 8 or 9 projects for the book this week, and then I have many, many hours of writing and editing ahead of me. Rather than sitting with my manuscript binging on potato chips or chocolate, it’s probably a much better idea to sip on a sweet smoothie while I work!

So let’s talk about this Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie, shall we? First of all, peanut butter lovers… this one’s for you! This has been my go-to smoothie for months now, and I think it’s because even though I LOVE making super sweet, fruit-filled smoothies like my Strawberry Banana or Tropical versions, sometimes I want something that tastes a little less fruity and a lot more like… I don’t know… a peanut butter cookie. Ha!

There is technically still fruit in this recipe, but the banana adds just a little bit of sweetness in the background while the peanut butter remains the star of the show. You can use any kind of milk you prefer… dairy, almond, soy, etc. And even though this recipe already has a good amount of protein from the Greek yogurt and peanut butter, if you’re looking to add a little extra kick of protein, go ahead and throw a scoop of vanilla or chocolate protein powder into the blender. It’s totally optional though! One last side note… You can use regular creamy peanut butter for this recipe, but lately I’ve been using PB2 Powdered Peanut Butter. Have you guys tried this stuff yet? It gives you the same peanut butter taste with 85% less fat and calories, if I remember correctly. Either way, this smoothie is sure to satisfy all the peanut butter fans out there!
