Welcome back to Day #4 of the
Love Grows Wild Blog Anniversary Celebration!

I may post about a variety of things here on my blog, but I’m a true crafter at heart and today I have the ULTIMATE craft giveaway to share with you! I’m giving away a Silhouette Portrait Cutting Machine to one lucky Love Grows Wild reader! {squeal!}
If you haven’t heard of Silhouette before, let me show you a preview of what these awesome machines are capable of. I am obsessed with chalkboard art, but sometimes chalk can be such a pain to work with. As soon as I get something cute drawn on my chalkboard, someone will inevitably rub part of it off, and I have to start all over. And it’s no fun cleaning up all that chalk dust mess! So I came up with a better idea and used my Silhouette CAMEO to create this Easy, Mess-Free Chalkboard Art:

Easy Vinyl Chalkboard Art at www.lovegrowswild.com #chalkboard #silhouette

Isn’t that so cute for Summer? I love jamming to that song!
Ever since I saw Heather’s gorgeous chalkboard art wall on her blog, Whipperberry, I’ve wanted to do something similar in my house. So I started by using the Silhouette Studio Designer Edition software to create the text for my chalkboard art. It is so easy to use, and I can select any of the fonts from my computer to add text. I’m a font hoarder, so I love this feature!
Easy Vinyl Chalkboard Art at www.lovegrowswild.com #chalkboard #silhouette
I needed something to fill the empty space between my text, and I thought a cute little truck with be perfect with these lyrics! I searched the Silhouette Online Store for “truck” and was able to find a ton of options:

Once my design was ready to go, I connected the Silhouette CAMEO to my computer and loaded a roll of white Silhouette vinyl into the machine. I love how easy it is to adjust the width the rollers and change the blade settings to match your project!
Easy Vinyl Chalkboard Art at www.lovegrowswild.com #chalkboard #silhouette
I clicked “cut” in the Silhouette Studio software, and my CAMEO went to town cutting out my design!

Easy Vinyl Chalkboard Art at www.lovegrowswild.com #chalkboard #silhouette
I had an old plaque that was painted with chalkboard paint a while back, and I thought it would be perfect to use for my vinyl chalkboard art sign!
Easy Vinyl Chalkboard Art at www.lovegrowswild.com #chalkboard #silhouette
To give it that true chalkboard look, I followed Heather’s advice and crushed a piece of chalk in a baggie…
Easy Vinyl Chalkboard Art at www.lovegrowswild.com #chalkboard #silhouette
… and wiped on some of the chalkboard dust with a paper towel. When your sign gets nice and chalky, use a clean paper towel to wipe away any excess chalk dust. Your vinyl will not want to stick well if your sign is too dusty!
Easy Vinyl Chalkboard Art at www.lovegrowswild.com #chalkboard #silhouette
Once my sign was ready to go, I grabbed the cut vinyl and peeled back the top layer, leaving the letters behind.

Easy Vinyl Chalkboard Art at www.lovegrowswild.com #chalkboard #silhouette
Some of the insides of the letters were left, but I just used my craft knife to remove them.

Easy Vinyl Chalkboard Art at www.lovegrowswild.com #chalkboard #silhouette
Next I placed a piece of Silhouette Transfer Paper on top of the letters, making sure my design was even. The grid marks make it super easy!
Easy Vinyl Chalkboard Art at www.lovegrowswild.com #chalkboard #silhouette
After rubbing over the letters to get them to stick to the transfer paper, I carefully peeled off the back of the vinyl letters and placed the transfer tape and letters onto my sign. This is the exciting part!!
Easy Vinyl Chalkboard Art at www.lovegrowswild.com #chalkboard #silhouette
I rubbed over the letters again to make sure they would adhere well to the sign, and then carefully removed the transfer paper. And now I have this totally adorable sign to hang in my house!
Easy Vinyl Chalkboard Art at www.lovegrowswild.com #chalkboard #silhouette
Using vinyl for the letters saved me so much time instead of painting them on by hand.
Easy Vinyl Chalkboard Art at www.lovegrowswild.com #chalkboard #silhouette
And the Silhouette machine made cutting those intricate little letters a breeze! I’m going to time myself next time to see how quickly I can put together cute art like this!
Easy Vinyl Chalkboard Art at www.lovegrowswild.com #chalkboard #silhouette
My husband even said he would hang this in his garage! He’s a country boy who loves his truck, so this is perfect for him. We may have to fight over it : )
