What if we took classic Puppy Chow and made it just a little better for you? All the chocolate peanut buttery goodness you expect, and no one will ever know the little swaps you made behind the scenes.
Whether you call it puppy chow or muddy buddies, this sweet treat is always a hit at parties and such a simple recipe to make. My kids always ask for it during holidays, football games, or really any kind of gathering we have, and I wanted to see if I could swap out any of the ingredients for something just a little bit better without sacrificing any flavor.
Now this is probably an unpopular opinion, but I’m gonna be real honest here for a second. I’m not a big fan of healthified desserts. Number one, I believe that life is way too short to not let yourself occasionally enjoy the real thing. Gooey warm cookies. Real dairy ice cream. Our taste buds deserve to indulge once in a while because the majority of the time we fuel our bodies with whole foods that nourish us, and dang it sometimes your soul just needs a scoop of ice cream.
But number 2, all too often I see a micro amount of weird protein or massive amounts of sugar alcohol added to a recipe, and suddenly people assume it’s “healthy” and is meant to be consumed daily.
But stepping off my soapbox, there are occasions, like the Super Bowl coming up, that I know my family is going to request their favorite eats and treats, and of course I’m going to make them because that’s my love language. So if I can swap out a few things to feel just a little bit better about the amount of Puppy Chow I’m going to consume this weekend, let’s do it.
