Creating a Simple, Stylish Makeup Vanity

I’m slowly working on my new master bedroom, but not at all in a rush to finish. I want to collect things over time that feel good instead of buying a bunch of things right away just to say it’s “done”. One thing I really wanted was a dedicated space to do my makeup because our bathroom (the only one we have in this house) is pretty tiny. I picked out a really nice, but super affordable, writing desk because all the vanities I looked at online looked cheap and kind of tacky like what you’d find backstage in a green room. And I wanted something that looked more like a nice piece of furniture that I could easily repurpose in another room one day, if needed. It has the prettiest reeded drawer detail, lots of storage space, and I love the woodgrain texture that peeks through the black finish.

I was really craving some darker elements with all the white walls in this room, and this desk and chair combo was just what the space needed. Most days I prefer to be in sweats and makeup-less, but I also really enjoy the art of applying makeup and being girly and feeling my best. I was able to fit all my makeup and brushes in these organizers, and you can get almost everything you see here on Amazon.

If you want to see more details on the desk/vanity, I shared a full unboxing and assembling video here. If you like seeing organization videos, I also shared how I sorted through and organized my makeup! I use the big vanity drawer with these organizers for my makeup, and this small two-drawer organizer for my brushes and makeup tools.

I also was very specific about not wanting a built-in lighted mirror attached to the vanity so that I could choose the exact mirror I wanted. I figured it would be a lot easier to swap out a standalone mirror than it would be to figure out how to fix one that’s built in. I absolutely love this arched mirror that has three different light temperatures (daylight/light/warm light) and adjustable brightness.
