Looking for an easy dessert recipe? You can whip up this rich and delicious Chocolate Banana Peanut Butter Milkshake in your blender in under 5 minutes!
So you probably already know me as a blogger, a Mom, and a wife, but did you know that I went to school to be a hair stylist? For real! I went to cosmetology school during my junior and senior year of high school and thought that would be my life-long career. I had big dreams of moving to New York or L.A. and becoming a stylist for top A-list celebrities and living in a chic apartment in the city and going out for sushi every night… yeah, needless to say my life took a major left turn somewhere along the road!
After spending nearly two years in a school full of high-maintenance ladies and not learning much more than how to hold a pair of scissors, I dropped out of beauty school and moved on with my life. {Insert lyrics to “beauty school dropout” here} You know you were singing that Grease song in your head! Anyway, life led me in a very different direction than my beauty school days, and I know I’m right where I belong here in the middle of the country with my three boys. But there is one important thing I took with me from my days at beauty school… This Chocolate Banana Peanut Butter Milkshake!
When we had our breaks at beauty school, quite often we would drive over to this little place that sold the most incredible milkshakes in the world. The first time we went there, my classmates who lived in that town recommended I try “The Dirty Monkey”. The dirty what?? Hesitant as I was to try such an odd-named drink, I took one frosty sip of that dirty monkey and it has been my favorite ever since!
Now that I live states away from that little milkshake place, I have to re-create my own here at home, and let me tell you… they are even BETTER than I remember! The classic dirty monkey combines the flavors of chocolate and banana (get it… dirty monkey? 🙂 ) into a delicious thick and frosty shake. When I make them at home, I like to add a little peanut butter into the mix, which pairs PERFECTLY with the chocolate-banana combo! Then I send them completely over the top by adding freshly brewed and chilled coffee too! I told you my version trumps the original!
Normally I have everything I need for my favorite milkshake, but all the holiday baking I’ve been doing has my supplies low. So last week I stopped at Walmart to pick up some of the Kraft products I use like Planters creamy peanut butter, Baker’s semi-sweet baking chocolate, Maxwell House coffee, and Cool Whip.
I wanted to make these yummy shakes for my Mom who just moved here and has been working her tail off unpacking boxes. Helping her has reminded me that I NEVER want to move again! So much work! I thought she could use a special treat for all the hard work she’s done, and these milkshakes definitely fit the bill! Do you want to know the best part? It takes me less than 5 minutes to whip them up in the blender! Take about an easy dessert! I just dump all the ingredients in, put on the lid, and let the blender do all the hard work. No mixing bowls to clean, no need to turn the oven on… just a frosty, chocolatey treat to enjoy!
I loved surprising Mom with a milkshake break, and I think my boys did too. They love helping me make these milkshakes and love drinking them even more! Try making these Chocolate Banana Peanut Butter Milkshakes next time you need an easy dessert to satisfy your chocolate craving!
