Painted Mantel Makeover

Now that all the Christmas decorations are finished around the house, this week I was finally able to tackle some projects that have been waiting for some attention. I spotted this mantel months ago at the antique store where I have my booth, and even though it wasn’t exactly what I was looking for, it had a good price and I knew I could customize it later to fit the style of our house. After some design modifications and a creamy coat of Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint, this mantel is now even better than I imagined!

White and Cream Christmas Bedroom

I’ve already decked the halls in my kitchen, dining room and living room, and this week I finally got to work on my master bedroom, which might be my favorite space to decorate in the whole house. There is something so cozy about this room, and I absolutely adore the soft white and cream color palette I decided to go with this Christmas. It’s soothing and bright and cheerful and the perfect backdrop for a little baby Christmas tree in the corner of the room!

This cozy master bedroom is beautifully decorated for Christmas with soft neutrals and tons of farmhouse charm. [Read more…]

Our Beautiful New Tree

I have a Christmas tree confession to make. Last year I was inspired to do a very simple, minimalist tree in our living room and only added a few white poinsettias and large snowy pinecones on the tree. In my head, it was going to look like this amazing Scandinavian beauty, but instead the tree turned out looking bare and boring and cheap. I should have known better than to try doing this look on our very old tree that has definitely seen better days, but needless to say I was pretty disappointed in the way it turned out and barely included it in any pictures I shared last year. I know that how our tree looks is far from the most important thing during Christmas and we are our own worst critics, but it’s something I get so excited to do each year, and last year was a let down for sure.

This year I definitely wanted to redeem myself, and I am so excited to be part of the 12 Bloggers of Christmas with Balsam Hill with my beautiful new tree!

Christmas Dessert Table in the Dining Room

I’ve always said that since becoming a mom, Christmas is even more special as I watch my little ones experience the joys of the holiday for the first time. We bake cookies together and listen to Christmas music and wrap gifts and hang ornaments on the tree and write letters to Santa and drive around at night looking at Christmas lights… so many traditions and memories we make during this wonderful time of year. I think as parents we want to make these moments as special as possible for our kids, and as I started decorating our dining room for Christmas this week, I decided to skip the fancy table setting and surprise the boys with something totally magical and very memorable!

This adorable dessert table is perfect for the holidays and kids! Celebrate Christmas with gingerbread houses, a donut tree, festive cakes, cookies and more!

Little Boy Farmhouse Bedroom

Sponsored by Stearns & Foster // Last week I shared how I’ve been working up in my boys’ bedroom to create the perfect, little space just for them. I want their room to be a cozy, fun place for them to hangout and relax in, but I also need it to double as a guest bedroom when the need arises. So I revamped the layout of this awkward attic bedroom to maximize space, upgraded their beds to make them super comfortable, and added some fun accessories to give the room a charming vintage vibe. I finally feel like we hit a home run in here, and I’m so excited to show you guys my sweet boys’ farmhouse bedroom!

Progress in the Boys’ Bedroom

Sponsored by Stearns & Foster // Now that the boys are out of school for summer, I’ve finally had some time to work on updating their bedroom with them, and we’ve made quite a bit of progress in the last few weeks! I don’t show the kids’ spaces on the blog very often because normally they are messy and full of blanket forts and toys, but I’ve never really done a full blog post on what their bedroom looks like since we moved into this house, oh… 5 years ago. So I figured it was about time, and you guys would enjoy seeing more of our little farmhouse! I also tend to decorate for kids a little differently than I do the rest of our house, so I thought it would be fun for you to see a design that’s a little more bold and playful from me. Still very neutral and farmhouse and very “Liz”, but a little more pattern and color thrown in the mix!

The boys are getting older (whether I like it or not), and their bedroom needed to grow with them too a little bit. When we first moved here, the unused attic space was converted into two bedrooms, mine and the boys’. All they basically had to start with was a bunk bed that we couldn’t bunk because of the short, angled attic ceiling and two small dressers. I dug these old photos out of the archives to take you on a trip down memory lane… [Read more…]
