White and Cream Christmas Bedroom

I’ve already decked the halls in my kitchen, dining room and living room, and this week I finally got to work on my master bedroom, which might be my favorite space to decorate in the whole house. There is something so cozy about this room, and I absolutely adore the soft white and cream color palette I decided to go with this Christmas. It’s soothing and bright and cheerful and the perfect backdrop for a little baby Christmas tree in the corner of the room!

Softening the Farmhouse

You know how little girls like to play dress up with their dolls? Or how mothers with daughters get to buy cute, ruffly dresses and bows for them to wear? Well, I’m a mom of boys, and the definition of playing dress up around here involves super hero costumes with masks and a weapon. Still cute, but not quite the same. ūüôā

That’s part of the reason I think I love interior design and decorating my farmhouse so much. It allows me to be creative and try different things, and I’ve noticed that my style lately has leaned more towards a much more feminine, softer vintage farmhouse feel. I adore the industrial look of hard metal and dark rustic wood, but at this stage of my life (newly single) my heart is drawn more to soft lace and ruffles and faded wood tones and light, bright white spaces. I’ve noticed that my design choices have been slowly softening our home, and I love the blend of feminine romance and vintage farmhouse that is happening.

I think it all started when I designed my master bedroom…

Spring Master Bedroom

I think the last few times I’ve shared my master bedroom here on the blog was during¬†the holidays or sometime when it was all decorated for a certain¬†season. So I wanted to share a little update of what my bedroom currently looks like in everyday life, plus a few updates I’ve made in here recently… bedding, wall art, plants, and pillows to name a few!

My bedroom is probably one of my favorite rooms to photograph in the house because it has quite a few features that really make the photographs pop… the soft, romantic lace curtains hung from a (faux) wood beam, the lines of bright white shiplap on the walls (which we installed with this tutorial), the contrast of the strong iron bed frame against all the white in the room… it all comes together beautifully through my camera lens. But the camera also points out what the room is lacking when I upload the photos on my computer and start to edit them. For a long time I’ve just had a basic white quilt on my bed and usually an extra throw blanket draped over the top. But this winter the thin quilt wasn’t very warm, and in photos the quilt all by itself looks very flat and hard. At the end of a long day when you want to crawl into your bed and sleep, you want it¬†to look soft and cozy and plush, not like a hard cot with a tiny blanket.

So to add an extra layer of softness and warmth to my bed, I bought a down alternative comforter and a feminine ruffled duvet in white. What a HUGE difference this made! It feels like I’m sleeping in¬†a fancy hotel bed every night, and the soft ruffles¬†make the bed look so much more cozy and inviting.

Fall Bedroom + Fall Into Home Tour

Welcome back to more fall decorating at the farmhouse, sweet friends! Today I am sharing one of my favorite spaces¬†in the¬†whole house, our cozy master bedroom, and I also have an exciting home tour to share with you! If you’re new here or just catching up, I’ve already¬†shared a few different rooms over the last few weeks¬†all decorated for fall, but when my dear friend, Rachel from Maison de Pax, asked me to join in her Fall Into Home Tour this year, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. So today I’m sharing the first look at our fall bedroom, recapping the other spaces¬†I’ve already decorated, and giving you 13 other home tours you can check out next!

Our master bedroom is located on the second level and took quite a bit of imagination to turn this dark, awkward attic space into a bright, beautiful, relaxing retreat. We added wide, rustic planks to all the walls and painted them white, which really helped to lighten up the space. Then we created a cozy nook for our farmhouse style iron bed by adding a faux wood beam to the ceiling and hanging white lace curtains up inside of the beam to frame the bed area. It is such a peaceful, inviting space to fall asleep in every night and makes it very hard to leave every morning!
