Winter Living Room Refresh

A beautiful farmhouse living room that feels cozy, bright, and totally charming!

Hi, sweet friends! I’ll admit it was a little depressing at first when all the Christmas decor came down and was packed away for the year. Part of me loves the clean, uncluttered blank slate, and the other part of me misses the coziness and light and warmth. The lights on the tree and wreaths in all the windows and presents waiting to be opened and cookies baking in the oven… it’s pretty hard to top that feeling, especially once the dreary, cold winter weather sets in.

So I decided to update the living room a little bit to help ease the transition with some new pieces from Birch Lane, and I’m really excited to show you the changes. It looks so much brighter in here to me now, and I finally feel like I’ve nailed the look I’ve always wanted in our living room. What a difference swapping out just a few little items can make!

Toasted Chili Cheese Bread

Need a quick and easy appetizer? Try this Toasted Chili Cheese Bread with tons of gooey cheese and a spicy kick of chili! This post is brought to you by our friends at EVITE® and HORMEL®.

This Toasted Chili Cheese Bread is the perfect quick appetizer and SO delicious! Tons of gooey cheese with a spicy kick of chili! Recipe at LoveGrowsWild.com

I have to be honest, guys. I’m kind of kicking myself with this recipe because it would have been PERFECT for the big game last month. A hot, crusty loaf of bread smothered in spicy chili and two types of ooey gooey cheese melted over top… now does that sound like football food or what? Regardless, this recipe is really delicious, and I think you’re going to love it!

The idea for this recipe came to me as a play on my boys’ favorite dip in the entire world… Chili Cheese Dip. I posted the recipe for it years ago, and despite the fact that the photos are horrendously ugly (seriously, go look at how bad they are!), that chili cheese dip has almost become my most popular recipe of all time! And really, it doesn’t surprise me… just 3 ingredients and a couple minutes in the microwave gives you the most addictive appetizer your taste buds have ever experienced. So naturally, I wanted to revamp the recipe for you a bit and combine it with another popular Love Grows Wild recipeRanch Bread.

The result is a toasted cheesy bread made with my beloved chili cheese dip ingredients: cream cheese, Cheddar cheese, and HORMEL® Chili No Beans. The chili is super convenient for quick and easy recipes like this and adds a great spicy kick to the bread. My family doesn’t do overly spicy foods, so the subtle heat in the HORMEL® Chili No Beans is perfect for us. Now that the kitchen remodel is finished (hallelujah!), I thought I’d give you a little play-by-play on how I make this recipe:

Creamy Garlic Pasta with Roasted Vegetables

This creamy garlic pasta with delicious roasted vegetables makes a great easy weeknight dinner! | LoveGrowsWild.com

We could all use a few more easy dinner ideas in our lives… am I right?

This season of my life seems to be a very busy one with Jeremy and I both running our own businesses, two little boys in school and sports, and a book that will be coming out in just about a year from now. I don’t have a ton of time to spend in the kitchen, especially on weeknights, so quick and easy recipes are definitely my go-to for dinner. Every once in awhile, I try to throw in an easy meat-free meal (meatless Monday, anyone?), and this recipe happens to be both meat-free and dairy-free, which I know some of you readers will enjoy and appreciate!

This pasta dish is super versatile because you can use any of your favorite veggies in place of the tomatoes and mushrooms I’ve chosen. Are you a bigger fan of zucchini and asparagus? Roast some of those! This is what I like to call a “clean out the fridge” kind of meal. Whatever leftover veggies you have on hand, chop them up, roast them in the oven, and add them to that luscious, garlicky pasta sauce. I’m curious… what are YOUR favorite vegetables to roast?

Holiday Movie Night Recipes

I love hosting holiday movie nights in our home, and this year I’ve come up with some fun, festive treats to serve during the movie: White Chocolate Holiday Popcorn Mix, Cookie Cutter Mini Pizzas, and Cranberry Holiday Punch. I think you’re going to love these easy movie treats too! This post is sponsored by our friends at EVITE® and Chinet® Cut Crystal®.

Host a holiday movie night this year! Serve these easy, festive treats during the movie: White Chocolate Popcorn Mix, Cookie Cutter Mini Pizzas, Cranberry Holiday Punch. | Recipes at LoveGrowsWild.com

I think I’m still in denial that it’s really almost time for the holidays already, but I have to admit… busting out one of my little Christmas trees and seeing the twinkling Christmas lights for the first time this year made me ridiculously happy. Our little farmhouse has changed so much over the last year, and I cannot wait to start decorating it for the holidays! Don’t worry, I promise to wait at least few more weeks to get started… maybe. 😉

Have you guys ever hosted a holiday movie night in your home? Sometimes with all the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, I find that it’s nice to have a low-key night at home instead of another big, fancy cocktail party. And let’s be honest… would you rather wear high heels and an uncomfortable dress all night or be snuggled up on the couch in comfy pajamas? I vote P.J.’s!

So I put together a simple, little menu of treats that you can serve at your movie night, and all of the recipes are kid-friendly, super easy, and very festive for the holidays. Want a little holiday hosting tip? No one likes to spend all night at the kitchen sink doing dishes, so serve your movie treats on Chinet® Cut Crystal®. This line of plates, cups, stemless wine glasses and cutlery looks elegant and stylish, but can be thrown away at the end of the night. Now let’s start with the popcorn…

This salty-sweet version is a mixture of fluffy, freshly-popped popcorn, salty, crunchy pretzels, and sweet chocolate M&M’s all covered in white chocolate. SO delicious! You can usually find bags of only red and green M&M’s around the holidays, or you can be like me and color sort a giant pile of M&M’s until you have enough. This recipe can easily be doubled or tripled if you’re expecting a lot of guests, and trust me… it will go fast!

Our tub was in bad shape, and the entire bathroom needed a major refresh. We started with a complete overhaul of our tub and shower by Bath Fitter, which you can read about here and here. Then we ripped up the old flooring and added a beautiful mosaic tile (details here). The next week we added a planked wall treatment and a new vanity and did LOTS of painting (details here). And now I am SO excited to show you our beautiful new farmhouse bathroom!

FYI: If you want to know where we found all the items for our bathroom, I’ve included a source list at the end of the post!

Pumpkin Breakfast Bowl with Pumpkin Spice Granola

Start your morning with a pumpkin-inspired breakfast bowl topped with homemade pumpkin spice granola!

Start your morning with a pumpkin-inspired breakfast bowl topped with homemade pumpkin spice granola! Nutritious and so delicious! | LoveGrowsWild.com

Alright, I know I’m the last person on the planet to jump on the whole “breakfast bowl” train, but… better late than never, right? I’ve always sipped my smoothies out of a boring, old cup until the last year when I started seeing everyone with these beautiful bowls full of smoothie + topping yumminess. I wondered what all the fuss was about, but now… NOW I get it.

I love whipping up a quick smoothie for breakfast or even for lunch when I’m swamped with work, but sometimes I just need to CHEW something. Something with texture. Something with crunch. That’s when a breakfast bowl comes in handy… it’s the same nutritious, delicious smoothie you’ve always had, just poured into big bowl, topped with whatever yummy toppings your little heart desires, and eaten with a spoon. Yay!

In honor of the beautiful fall weather we’re having here in Indiana this week, I’m making my first breakfast bowl on the blog a pumpkin-flavored one. A simple, healthy, pumpkin pie-inspired smoothie with homemade pumpkin spice granola. Okay… that’s actually TWO firsts for today. This is the first time I’ve made granola at home, and oh my gosh… why did I try this sooner? Super easy, way more delicious than the stuff you buy at the store, and you can customize it with whatever flavors you like. You can bet there will be a giant container of homemade granola sitting in my pantry at ALL times now. It’s so delish!

Bathroom Makeover Week 2: Bathtub Installation

We’re giving our bathroom a big makeover! This week our bathtub and shower installation happened… you can catch up on the rest of the bathroom series here! This post is brought to you by our friends at Bath Fitter.

This was a pretty big week for the bathroom makeover. Our tub and shower got a COMPLETE overhaul. The Bath Fitter vans pulled in just as we got the boys on the school bus, and the rest of the day I pretty much sat in my office, caught up on blog work, and let the installer do his thing.

As soon as they stepped foot into the house, a blue carpet was laid all the way back to the bathroom so they weren’t tracking things in and out of the house, which was much appreciated. I said it in last week’s post about our consultation appointment, and I’ll say it again now: it truly is the little details like this that make a company really stand out from the rest.
