Peonies from my Garden

I wish I could say that I picked these beautiful flowers from my garden on a gorgeous sunny day without a care in the world… just enjoying the beauty of spring all around me and the warm sunshine on my face. I wish I could say that this past year hasn’t been one of hardest in my life and that I haven’t been desperately trying to make sense of the chaos around me. I wish I could say that I haven’t laid awake at night alone and crying, wondering what we could have done differently. I wish I could say that we made it. And most of all I wish I could say that I never had to have that excruciatingly painful conversation with my children and hold them while they cry.

But the reality is that we didn’t make it, and I picked these peonies on a day when life felt overwhelming. I had a million things I needed to do, but I just couldn’t bring myself to do any of them. So I walked outside to the yard I’ve been learning to take care of all by myself this spring and found my peonies in full bloom… a gift from nature that couldn’t have come at a more perfect time.

I carefully picked them all and brought them inside to my kitchen. They were stunningly beautiful and full of life and made my soul feel at peace. I grabbed my camera and started taking pictures… it felt as though their beauty was coming through the camera lens and into my heart… replacing the hurt and loneliness with inspiration and love and the desire to create again.

A Touch of Farmhouse Charm – Book Release Day!

It was two summers ago when I first got the email from a wonderful publishing company asking if I would be interested in writing a book. I think I read and reread that email forty times just to make sure they didn’t accidentally send it to me by mistake. I’ve always been open to the possibility of taking my ideas beyond this little blog, but did I have what it takes to become an author? I had no idea.

Fast forward a few months to October, and I had successfully negotiated a contract with my publisher and signed on the dotted line. Still unsure of whether I was worthy of such an opportunity, I sat down with a pen and paper and started writing down ideas and making to-do list and marking important deadlines on my calendar. After five crazy months of house projects and kitchen renovations and late night writing sessions and thousands of photos, I turned in my manuscript and said a little prayer that it would all turn out the way I pictured in my head.

Today I am so proud to say that my first book, A Touch of Farmhouse Charm, is now officially released and available for purchase, and it turned out even better than I ever imagined in my wildest dreams. I poured my heart and soul into this 192-page book with 70 brand new home decorating projects, a room-by-room tour of our home, and the story of how we completely renovated this little 1940’s farmhouse. It feels pretty surreal that my book release day is finally here!

The release of Liz Fourez's first book, A Touch of Farmhouse Charm - available now!

To those of you who have already pre-ordered your copy of the book, thank you sincerely from the bottom of my heart! Here’s a little preview of what you’ll find inside: [Read more…]

Little Bits of Love

Hi friends. Do you miss me? Because I’ve sure missed you!

It’s been a rather quiet summer on the blog, and I feel like this chat we’re about to have has been coming for awhile now. I just couldn’t find the words or the right time to sit down and open up my heart into a blog post until now. If you’ve been around Love Grows Wild for any amount of time, you probably know that I am always posting new makeovers and projects from our little farmhouse at least a few times a week. In the last 4 1/2 years of writing this blog, I have rarely taken any time off and usually work 6-7 days a week for more hours of the day than I’d like to admit. It’s just so easy to do when you run your own business out of your home.

Little Bits of Love

I know it’s been quite awhile since my last Little Bits of Love post, but I feel like now is a good time to take a quick break from home renovation and projects to share a little bit of my heart with you guys. Let’s grab a cup of coffee and catch up on life!

There’s been so much going on over the last few months, and I’ve been so focused on keeping all the balls I’m juggling up in the air, that I haven’t had a chance to tell you guys about all the exciting things that have been happening. First, we had Christmas here at the farmhouse, and it was one of the most wonderful, memorable, relaxing holidays I can remember. We didn’t have to travel to a million different places or drive through slick, snow-covered roads to get anywhere. We took a day trip over to see Jeremy’s family in Illinois and sang Christmas carols the whole way there. Then on Christmas Day, we had some of my family come to stay with us, and we just ate lots of food, played games, and enjoyed spending time together. It was pretty much perfect.

Fourez Christmas 2015

On the Monday after Christmas, I decided I better get all the Christmas decor put away while I had a chance. I knew things were going to get crazy around here quickly, and if I didn’t get it all done then, it might end up staying until Christmas of 2016. As much as I hated to see all the greenery and lights get put away, it felt good to get a clean, uncluttered space to start off the new year with.

Then, I got the phone call. [Read more…]

Happy New Year, my friends! It’s hard to believe another year has already flown by, right? I’ve had so much on my mind lately but have struggled to find the right words, so today I’ll do my best. Maybe the extra cup of coffee I had will help me find them.

Most of December was centered around (any guesses?)… Christmas. Getting the house all decorated, shopping for gifts, baking way too many sugar cookies (and eating approximately 94% of them myself), and spending lots of time with family.

Little Bits of Love

Little Bits of Love |

Hello again, friends! I’m so happy you’re here for this month’s Little Bits of Love post. I have so much to share!  I’m not quite sure how we’re less than 3 weeks away from Christmas already… I kind of broke out in a cold sweat just saying that. #truth

So the big triumph for our family this month was finishing up harvest. Yay! In case you’re new to Love Grows Wild (by the way… welcome!), I’ll bring you up to speed real quick. My husband grew up on a farm and has wanted to be involved ever since he was a little boy. Over the years Jeremy has worked a variety of different agriculture jobs (hay baling, owned a livestock feed mill, worked at a fertilizer company), but he’s never had an opportunity to come home to the family farm and follow his one true passion in life… until this year. This year he worked side-by-side with his uncles, and we grew our first crop of corn and soybeans. I can’t even begin to tell you the joy it brings my heart to see my husband starting this adventure he’s always dreamed of, and although we still have a LONG way to go before we are where we want to be, we’re on the right path. We may not have much in our bank account right now, but we have big dreams and a hell of a lot of ambition and drive. I know we can do this. [Read more…]
