I’m still in total disbelief that it’s almost Christmas and we’ll soon be kissing 2015 goodbye. I have about 99% of my shopping done, our Christmas cards have been written and addressed (and are still sitting in a pile on my desk instead of heading to the mailbox, but still… ), and our little farmhouse is all decked out for the holidays. Did you guys see our Christmas at the Farmhouse Home Tour yet? Check out Part 1 and Part 2 after you grab today’s recipe!

All holiday preparation craziness is just about over, and I’m almost ready to take a little break from work, relax and enjoy Christmas with my family. We still have plenty of Christmas cookies and goodies to bake, carols to sing, and Christmas lights to go see! But before I hibernate for a few weeks, I just had pop in and share this DELICIOUS cookie recipe with you that happens to be perfect for the holidays! I think you all know by now that sugar cookies are by far my favorite, but these molasses cookies are so soft and chewy with the perfect crunch from a dip into some coarse sugar before baking and that classic molasses, cinnamon and ginger flavor that reminds us of the holidays!

These cookies are pretty simple to make, and I think you’re REALLY going to love me for sharing this one because there are instructions for how to prep these bad boys ahead of time so you’re not messing up the kitchen right before company comes over! See my note at the bottom of the recipe to find out how I make the dough up to 2 weeks ahead!

It warms my heart at the thought of my recipes coming to life in your kitchens this holiday season, and I want to say thank you so much for letting me into your home!

xoxo Liz

Gingerbread Milkshake

This sweet and creamy Gingerbread Milkshake will make you want to skip straight to dessert!

This sweet and creamy Gingerbread Milkshake will make you want to skip straight to dessert! | LoveGrowsWild.com

Few things in life make me happier than a thick, creamy milkshake. When my sister and I were little kids, we would save up our Halloween chocolate bars just so we could make milkshakes with them. Butterfinger was probably my favorite, and I would bang the candy bar on the counter with Mom’s meat mallet until it was broken into nice, little pieces. Then the candy went into a blender with vanilla ice cream and milk, and when I pressed the “on” button… pure magic would happen. It is probably one of my favorite memories of being in the kitchen as a child!

Now that I’m an adult, my love affair with milkshakes is still going strong, and although I don’t indulge in them often, I do enjoy making them for the boys, especially as special treats around the holidays. So today I thought I’d share one of my FAVORITE recipes with you guys that is super festive and super easy to make: Gingerbread Milkshakes!

This tasty treat has all the spice and flavor of a delicious gingerbread cookie and whips together in probably less than 60 seconds. It’s made with a combination of vanilla ice cream, vanilla extract, cinnamon, ginger, Biscoff spread (or cookie butter for you Trader Joe fans) and cold, refreshing milk. And if you want to make your milkshake extra special, follow my instructions for adding a gingerbread rim to your glass! It adds a fun, festive touch when serving these at a party!

Frosted Sugar Cookie Bars

These Frosted Sugar Cookie Bars are soft, tender, and perfectly sweet. And did I mention how easy they are to make?

Perfectly sweet, soft and tender, easy to make Frosted Sugar Cookie Bars! | LoveGrowsWild.com

Tell me I’m not the only one who is SERIOUSLY looking forward to Christmas cookies already! Some years we bake a ton for the holidays, and some years we just don’t have a lot of time for baking, but one thing we ALWAYS make is sugar cookies. In particular, my perfect, delicious, super easy sugar cookie cut-outs. They’re Santa’s favorite after all, right?

I first shared my sugar cookie cut-out recipe on the blog a few years ago, and since then it has been pinned over 325,000 times. It makes my heart so happy to know that this recipe is being enjoyed in so many homes for the holidays, just as it is in ours. But this year, I thought I’d share an EVEN EASIER alternative to the cut-out cookies in case you’re super short on time like I am this year!

When I do sugar cookie cut-outs, I have to make the dough, roll the dough, chill the dough, cut the dough with cookie cutters, and then they get to go in the oven. But when you turn the sugar cookies into cute, little bars, all you have to do is make the dough and press it into a baking dish! It’s easier, quicker, great for serving at parties, and unbelievably delicious with my buttercream frosting spread on top!

Here are a few little tips and tidbits about the recipe… First, the cookie itself is not overly sweet because the buttercream frosting adds more than enough sugar to the finished product. The almond extract in the cookie dough is optional because I learned from my original sugar cookie recipe that some people LOVE it and some people HATE it. I prefer a little bit of almond extract in mine, but you can leave it out completely if you like! And last but not least, keep a close eye on the dough when it’s baking and take it out of the oven when the center looks JUST barely set. The dough will continue to firm up as it cools, and you don’t want an overdone sugar cookie!

Oh… one last thing: SPRINKLES!

Creamy Garlic Pasta with Roasted Vegetables

This creamy garlic pasta with delicious roasted vegetables makes a great easy weeknight dinner! | LoveGrowsWild.com

We could all use a few more easy dinner ideas in our lives… am I right?

This season of my life seems to be a very busy one with Jeremy and I both running our own businesses, two little boys in school and sports, and a book that will be coming out in just about a year from now. I don’t have a ton of time to spend in the kitchen, especially on weeknights, so quick and easy recipes are definitely my go-to for dinner. Every once in awhile, I try to throw in an easy meat-free meal (meatless Monday, anyone?), and this recipe happens to be both meat-free and dairy-free, which I know some of you readers will enjoy and appreciate!

This pasta dish is super versatile because you can use any of your favorite veggies in place of the tomatoes and mushrooms I’ve chosen. Are you a bigger fan of zucchini and asparagus? Roast some of those! This is what I like to call a “clean out the fridge” kind of meal. Whatever leftover veggies you have on hand, chop them up, roast them in the oven, and add them to that luscious, garlicky pasta sauce. I’m curious… what are YOUR favorite vegetables to roast?

Traditional Homemade Stuffing

Sponsored by Meijer // This simple homemade stuffing is perfect for weeknight dinners and a MUST for the holidays!

This simple stuffing recipe is a MUST for the holidays! Get the recipe at LoveGrowsWild.comIn case you were starting to worry that I was going to skip right over Thanksgiving and dive straight into Christmas, today I’m sharing one of my favorite turkey day classics. The best homemade stuffing with the perfect balance of herbs and a buttery, crispy top!

When I was growing up, boxed stuffing was all my family made for the holidays. It was easy, delicious, and I never knew anything different. But as I got into adulthood and spread my culinary wings a bit, I had my first taste of REAL homemade stuffing. “Wow… so THIS is what stuffing is supposed to taste like!” Big, buttery cubes of bread still soft and tender on the inside, but crispy and perfectly crusty on the outside. The perfect blend of herbs mixed with tender, buttery vegetables. Your Thanksgiving menu deserves a stuffing recipe like this!

There are a million different varieties of stuffing out there, but this one is simple and what I would call “traditional”. Feel free to jazz it up with other ingredients if you like, but if you’re looking for a great classic stuffing to use year after year, this is the one!

I use regular, old white sandwich bread for this recipe, but just make sure it’s a good-quality, firm loaf. I do 99% of my grocery shopping at Meijer and stop by the bakery section to get one of their freshly-baked loaves of white bread. And some stuffing recipes I’ve tried call for ALL fresh herbs, but when you’re talking about 4, 5, or sometimes 6 different herbs, that can get pretty pricey. Instead, just use dried herbs for the majority of the flavor and pick up a bundle of fresh parsley for a pop of freshness throughout the dish. Oh, and I even made it REALLY simple for you… I just use a pre-mixed poultry seasoning!

Hold the phone… is November really already halfway over? It seems like just yesterday the farmhouse was filled with jack-o-lanterns and Halloween candy, and now I’m getting all the Christmas decorations out! Yes, I know it’s still WAY early for Christmas stuff, but in order to have holiday posts ready for the blog in time, I have to give myself a few extra weeks. Holiday decorating is a process for me… one day I’ll work on our big tree in the living room… the next day I’ll work on our front porch… then I’ll do the smaller stuff around the house.

Luckily, we don’t host Thanksgiving at our house, so I can get started on our Christmas stuff as early as I need to. Jeremy’s only request is it has to be AFTER Halloween and nothing outdoors until after Thanksgiving. I think he’s worried that people driving by will think we’re the Griswold’s 2.0 or something. 🙂

This homemade hot chocolate mix is super creamy and SO delicious! Make a big batch for the winter or just a single serving, OR give it as a gift! | LoveGrowsWild.com

I love, love, love this recipe, you guys! If you’ve been around Love Grows Wild for a few years, you might recognize this post. Back in the blog archives, I made a homemade hot chocolate mix layered in a cute, little mason jar, and the post ended up becoming pretty darn popular, especially around the holidays. A lot of you have tried the recipe and said that it needed some tweaking, so I’ve been re-testing it for a few months now and finally came up with the PERFECT ratio of ingredients. You guys were spot on with your suggestions!

In the old post, I made a tag to go with the recipe (in case you wanted to give it as a gift), but some people used a different size jar than I did or had a specific request for what it said, so I decided to revamp the recipe tag too! This time, I have TWO different tags you can choose from…

  • One with the ingredients listed, but not the amount, so you can fill in your own amounts if you want or leave it blank.
  • One with only the instructions in case you put your own spin on the ingredients in the recipe.

P.S. I printed my tags on brown kraft paper for the photos, but you could do it on white cardstock or whatever paper you like!
