Fall Dining Room + Home Depot Style Challenge

Hey guys! I just wanted to pop in real quick and share something fun that I’ve been working on this fall… I partnered with Home Depot again for their annual Style Challenge! You might remember our outdoor harvest party we did for last year’s challenge, and this year we had the category “dining room”.

Earlier this summer, Home Depot sent us a mystery box of fall decor and told us to get creative decorating our space. Over the last few years, I’ve really toned down our holiday decorating and have learned to to add subtle hints of the season rather than plastering pumpkins and scarecrows all around the house. I do enjoy celebrating each beautiful season, but it just becomes too much work to drag out boxes and boxes of decorations that only stay up a handful of weeks before it’s time to move onto the next holiday, so I decided to stick with neutral colors that naturally fit into our home and simple decor that gives the feeling fall is on its way…

I brought out some scarves, jackets, and boots for chillier days and a few blankets to cuddle up with.
I added a “vintage” apple orchard sign that I made out of plywood.
I placed a few antique white and dusty blue pumpkins around the room.

So simple… so cozy… and so ready for fall!

Fall Farmhouse Kitchen

Around this time last year I was finishing up my kitchen makeover, and to be honest, not much has changed since then! Even though we weren’t in a position to completely renovate and get the new countertops, cabinets, and flooring I’ve been dreaming of, I was able to give the kitchen some much needed style and accessories to make the room feel complete.

We added a small shelf with hooks to hang my aprons, and it’s been the perfect spot to display a few decorative items as well. It’s been awhile since I updated this shelf (um… last fall to be exact!), so today I’m sharing with you a sweet little fall farmhouse kitchen display to inspire your fall decorating! Wood, metal, natural elements, and neutral colors come together to create a simple look with a vintage feel and a nod to this beautiful season.

DIY Chalkboard Sign

Happy Saturday, friends! I’m gearing up for some big projects around here soon (follow my Instagram feed for sneak peeks!), and I have a long to-do list ahead of me. I cannot wait to share more details with you! What are you up to this weekend?

I wanted to pop in quickly today and share an awesome little project that I think you’re going to love. I made a quick and simple chalkboard using a wood round (pre-cut from the craft store) and some chalkboard paint! Does it really get much easier than that? The raw wood has a great rustic vibe, and although I haven’t gone too far into decorating for fall (… yet!), this little bit of chalk art is giving me a great start!

Fall Decorated Kitchen

Hello friends! Today I’m sharing something very special with you: my Fall Decorated Kitchen! Other than the giant Fall sign I made for my patio, I really haven’t done much decorating for the season. Sometimes it just seems like such hassle to change everything around and have to re-do it again in a few short weeks. BUT I’ve made huge progress with my kitchen makeover in the past couple months, so I thought I’d stop and enjoy my pretty kitchen with some simple touches of Fall! It’s really the only space that feels somewhat “complete” in my house, so why not start there? Okay, let’s take a little tour!
On the back wall of my kitchen, I created some fantastic Fall chalk art on my DIY chalkboard that really sets the mood for the season. I mean, could you really sum up your feelings for Fall any other way?
Hooray for Pumpkin Pie!

The frame of my chalkboard is the perfect place to hang a pretty garland, and these sheet music leaves I strung together are simply beautiful. I pieced them together with my sewing machine to really speed up the process! It’s a good thing no one in my family plays piano much, because all our sheet music has been spending quite a bit of time in my craft room lately!

The next wall holds a shelf that I recently refinished and is the perfect place to display some Fall decor. I created a beautiful stained wood mini pallet sign as the backdrop to my little vignette. I originally planned to paint some artwork on it, but I absolutely love the gorgeous wood grain it has, so I  decided to leave it be and hang a little wreath I made over it. It was a super easy project to do and adds a ton of texture and dimension to the display. If you want to know how I made my mini pallet sign, leave me a comment and let me know! I just discovered an awesome new product to use, and I’d be happy to share : )

You may have seen the Fall Photography Collection I added to The Shop this week, and if not you should definitely go check it out! I couldn’t wait to add this print of swirly cinnamon sticks somewhere in my home, and this shelf was the perfect place. Don’t you just love those little curls?

I’m normally a pretty neutral color decorator, but these three little pumpkins provided the perfect splash of Fall color to the shelf. I love how they look standing on their side!

As I was putting together this display, I was also spray painting another project out in my barn, and I found this pretty little feather on one of my trips outside. Gotta love free, nature-inspired decor right?

A vase full of wheat rounds out the display. Love all the texture going on!

This little nook in my kitchen provides the perfect place to display some pumpkins. I have to say, that creamy white one on top of the antique kitchen scale is my favorite. But could have guessed that, right? : )

I covered one of my cookbooks in some brown kraft paper and stamped a little message on the spine. Simple little touches like this just make me smile.

And last but not least is this fake pumpkin I turned into a pretty flower vase. I found this big guy at the end of last season for super cheap, and though he was originally neon green, I knew a little bit of spray paint was all he needed to fit right in at my house. I painted him white, cut a hole in the top, and hand painted a little monogram on the front. These sunflowers were a great dollar store find and really brighten up my kitchen!

So there you have it! Simple, easy Fall decor using mostly things I had around the house. Now please excuse me while I go face plant into some pumpkin pie : )

Salted Caramel Pumpkin Parfaits

Fall baking wouldn’t be complete without a decadent pumpkin dessert! These Salted Caramel Pumpkin Parfaits are layered with gingersnaps, pumpkin pudding, and homemade salted caramel sauce and served in cute little mason jars! This (mostly) no-bake dessert is perfect for traveling, so be sure to save this recipe for the holidays!

It’s pumpkin season ya’ll. Let’s indulge a little! I admit, I’m 100% guilty of pinning a million and one pumpkin desserts this time of year, so I figured it was necessary to share a little pumpkin treat here on the blog! But this is more than just a little treat… It’s the ULTIMATE pumpkin treat. Here’s how it came about…
Earlier this Summer I came up with one of my favorite desserts ever (okay, they’re really all my favorites, but still) Banana Cream Pudding Parfaits. The flavors and textures turned out fabulous, and all those pretty layers stacked in a cute little mason jar was just to die for. Seriously amazing! They were such a hit that I couldn’t help but dream up other flavor combos I could use with these pudding parfaits, and wouldn’t ya know it… pumpkin was at the top of my list! I told you… pumpkin addict right now!
The main component of the parfait is an incredible pumpkin pudding made with vanilla instant pudding, pumpkin puree, and pumpkin pie spice. It’s nice and thick and FULL of pumpkin flavor! Just check out how gorgeous the color is…

Then I added a layer of Cool Whip Cream Cheese Frosting to add some fluff and contrasting color against the bright orange pudding. Have you seen this stuff in stores yet? It’s in the frozen section right next to the regular Cool Whip, and I just love it! They have a few different flavors, and I thought the cream cheese would be just perfect with the pumpkin. If you can’t find the frosting in stores though, regular ol’ Cool Whip will work fine here!
And by the way, I think piping the pudding and frosting into the jars is the easiest way to go about assembling the parfaits. It helps keep the layers nice and pretty! You don’t need any fancy piping bags, just grab a zip-top bag and cut off one of the corners. Works like a charm!

I wanted to have some crunch against all the soft layers of cream and pudding, so I chopped up some gingersnaps I bought from the store and added those to the jars as well. The gingersnaps are crisp and crunchy and have a wonderful warm, spicy flavor! Pumpkin and gingersnaps are truly a match made in Heaven!
Oh, and I’ll give you fair warning… chopping up the gingersnaps with a knife tends to shoot them all across your kitchen. You should have seen my floor when I was done! I probably should have been wearing protective eyewear with how violently these little cookies were flying. If you want to avoid this mess, you can pulse the gingersnaps in a food processor a few times or just crush them up in a zip-top bag instead. I just like the little chunks of cookie you get from chopping them.

I mean, really… don’t you just want to dive into those layers right now? Go grab a spoon!

But wait! What if I added another one of my favorite Fall flavors to this dessert… Salted Caramel! Yep, I did! I checked out a from-scratch Salted Caramel recipe from Two Peas & Their Pod and created something that would change my life forever. Just look at that beautiful, deep amber, homemade caramel sauce!

Now drizzle that gorgeous salted caramel all over the top… ohhh yeah! I told you this was the ULTIMATE pumpkin dessert!

The best part about these cute little parfaits in a jar… they’re perfect for traveling! Once you assemble them, just pop the lids on and stick them in the refrigerator until you’re ready to go. Why bring a boring pie to Thanksgiving dinner when you can bring these babies?

Salted Caramel Pumpkin Parfaits - Delicious pumpkin pudding, gingersnaps, and homemade salted caramel sauce all layered in a jar!
Salted Caramel Pumpkin Parfaits
40 gingersnaps, chopped
1 – (5.1 ounce) package Jell-o vanilla instant pudding
1 – (15 ounce) can pumpkin puree
2 cups cold milk
1 1/2 tablespoons pumpkin pie spice
2 – (10 ounce) containers Cool Whip Cream Cheese Frosting, thawed
For the Salted Caramel:
2 cups granulated sugar
12 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature, cut into cubes
1 cup heavy cream, room temperature
1 tablespoon sea salt
First prepare the salted caramel:
Add the sugar in an even layer to a 2-3 quart saucepan over medium-high heat. When the sugar begins to melt, use a whisk to stir the sugar until it is completely melted. Continue cooking the sugar until it becomes deep amber in color and reaches a temperature of 350 degrees. I recommend using a thermometer! As soon as the sugar hits 350 degrees, carefully add the butter all at once, whisking until the butter is melted. Be careful, the caramel will bubble up at this point! You can switch to a wooden spoon now if the sugar is getting stuck to the whisk. Remove the pan from the heat and slowly pour in the heavy cream. Stir until the cream is incorporated into the sauce and the caramel is smooth. Add the sea salt and stir to combine. Allow the caramel to cool for 10-15 minutes in the pan before using.
Then assemble the parfaits:
In a large bowl, combine the instant pudding mix, pumpkin pie spice, and milk, and beat with a whisk for 2 minutes. Gently fold in pumpkin puree and set aside. Layer about 2 tablespoons of the gingersnaps into the bottom of 8 half pint jars. Top the gingersnaps with a layer of the pumpkin pudding you prepared earlier. Then add a layer of the cream cheese frosting. Drizzle with a spoonful of the salted caramel sauce. Repeat the layers twice with remaining ingredients. Garnish the tops of the parfaits with extra salted caramel and gingersnaps. Refrigerate for about 2 hours before serving.
– Transfer the extra salted caramel into a large jar and store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. Just heat it up before serving.
