Our Fall Kitchen

September is such a beautiful time of year here in Indiana. The sun still shines warm and bright during the day, but the evenings start to get cooler each night and beg for us to open up the windows and let in the crisp autumn air. It instantly puts me in the mood to start cozying up the farmhouse for fall, and this week that’s exactly what I did. With a fresh breeze blowing in through the windows and the scent of a spiced pumpkin candle drifting all throughout the house, I got to work on bringing this new season into our home. Yes friends, it’s that time of year. I hope you’re getting as excited as I am!

Farmhouse Christmas Kitchen + Gingerbread Bundt Cake

The other day I was working on decorating our kitchen a little bit for the holidays, and I realized that this time last year we were still living with our old kitchen and just about to completely tear everything down almost to the studs. It feels like forever since we were living through that month long renovation with construction dust everywhere and eating microwave dinners more times than I want to count, but it is such an amazing feeling to have this beautiful space now, especially around the holidays.

I’ve been doing a ton of baking in here lately, and I have an amazing Gingerbread Bundt Cake recipe that I want to share with you today. It is so simple to whip up and makes a beautiful centerpiece for your holiday table with very little effort! But first, let’s take a little tour around the kitchen…

Simple Farmhouse Fall Kitchen

Hi, sweet friends. Today is an exciting day here at our little farmhouse! I’m sharing the first glimpse of our home dressed up for fall (which is quite possibly my favorite season of them all), and I get to introduce something new to you today that I think you’re really going to love. In the past, I would spend a ton of time and a small fortune on our seasonal and holiday decorating, and after awhile it seemed to be more of a burden and headache than an enjoyable experience for our family. If you read this post I shared recently (and thank you if you did!), you already know that I’m trying to take a more simple approach to life and blogging now so that I can be a happier, less-stressed me. With this new mantra, I’ve decided to really cut back on the holiday extravagance this year and focus on more simple, meaningful ways to welcome each new season into our home.

So instead of sharing one big, huge fall home tour with pumpkins spilling out of every crack and crevice of our farmhouse, I’m going to share one small space every week or so with simple and affordable decorating ideas that you can easily replicate in your home! And I even have several amazingly talented ladies joining me in this simple holiday decorating series, so you will have TONS of inspiration to check out over the next few months! The series is officially titled “Farmhouse Holiday Series”, and you can see all the women who are participating at the end of this post! Sound like a plan, my loves?

Kitchen Makeover – Before & After

The beginning of 2016 started off with a bang in our house (literally), as we began renovations on our dated farmhouse kitchen. This was by far the biggest and most expensive project we’ve tackled in this house, and I carefully designed every single detail to give us a functional, spacious, family-friendly kitchen on a budget that we could afford.

We opened up the wall between our kitchen and living room, which instantly made the kitchen feel so much bigger, brighter, and more open. We replaced all the cabinets, flooring, countertops, and lighting, and we even tore out the old chimney behind one wall to make room for a large pantry cabinet. I’ve posted about each step of our renovations over the last few months (you can see them all here!), but today I thought it would be fun to end our incredible kitchen makeover journey with some great before and after photos, which REALLY give you an idea of how far this little kitchen has come! It still shocks me how big this transformation was!

Let’s take a trip down memory lane…

Kitchen Makeover – Appliances

Our little farmhouse kitchen got a BIG makeover! This week I’m sharing the appliances we chose and why… you can catch up on the rest of the kitchen makeover series here!

Today’s post is sponsored by GE Appliances, but all thoughts and opinions are 100% my own. |  Now that we’ve talked about most of the design choices in our kitchen makeover, let’s talk about something more on the functional side… appliances!

The appliances we had in our previous kitchen worked fine, but we decided that if we were going to spend the money on a new, beautiful kitchen, we wanted new appliances to go with it. We’ve only ever owned hand-me-down appliances, and I’m pretty sure the microwave we used for the last 8 years is the smallest model ever invented. Only certain size plates would fit inside and actually spin on the turntable. I think it would be better suited for a college dorm room than a household of four! But we lived with them happily until we could afford a big kitchen renovation like this, and I am SO happy with the appliances we picked out. I had no idea how much they would change the way we use our kitchen!
